quick oil change question

Since I do a lot of highway driving, does anyone feel it is absolutely necessary to change the oil in my G every 3750 miles, or should 7500 be sufficient? I've read a lot about how well newer engines run, and a lot of people feel it's not necessary to change oil so often. For instance, my wife's Volvo S60 only requires a change every 7500. Maybe the frequent intervals are for Infiniti to make some $$?

Re: quick oil change question

Just to be on the safe side, I change my 2000 Maxima and
2003 G35 oil every 3750 or so miles. I is probably OK
to go longer, but when under warranty, why bother with
a potential fight with the dealer when it comes to warranty
work. OH look, you didn't change your oil at 3750 mile
intevals, warranty null and void!

Re: quick oil change question

Inifiniti recommends oil changes at intervals ranging from every 3,750 miles to every 7,500 miles depending on your driving habits. These recommendations are outlined in the Infiniti Service and Maintenance Guide. There are three levels of service; premium, schedule 1, and schedule 2. I've attached a page from the guide.

Re: quick oil change question

Thanks for the input. I have tended to err on the side of caution and have had it changed every 3750, but given that 80% of my mileage lately has been highway mileage, I thought it might be overkill. My dealer (Grubbs) doesn't seem to make any distinction between "Premium" and "Schedule 1". Costs about $30 for the oil change. Not bad, I guess...

You bought a $35k car...why not just do everything you can to maintain it =) I drive mostly on the highway myself but tend to go a little faster than most =) I change every 3k just to be sure (want to make extra sure its smooth when I hit 6500rpm).

Re: quick oil change question

Rzktex, To my mind, your driving conditions aren't severe since you drive mainly hwy miles, It may be safe to go somewhere in between 3750 and 7500 between changes.

I feel the same as most peeps here: that to err on the side of caution is best, but if I did mainly hwy miles, I'd prolly go to 5k. Definitely no more tho.

My $.02

Re: quick oil change question

Put in a high-quality synthetic (like Mobile 1) and 7,500 miles should not be a problem with mostly highway miles. I wouldn't do this with Dino oil however.

Just my opinion - your mileage may vary....
