04 G35x Rear Licnese Frame

Hey all,

Just joined the G family with a silver 04 G35x. The car is pretty nice but there's a little problem that I didn't notice until I brought the car home...

It's the rear bumper where the license plate is. I don't know what happened but there's a large piece of plastic missing there, both screw holes are screwed so there's no way to secure the license plate on it. The dealer drilled a small hole near the right screw hole so he can put his dealer plate on to cover this up. I never thought there could be a problem...

I know the best way to fix it is to get a new bumper and the license plate frame. But that seems to cost too much... Do you guys have any advice what to do?

Thanks.

any input is welcome guys~

I'm thinking to glue another piece of plastic there and then screw the license plate frame on it. Dunno if it would be strong enough...

How about fabbing a small metal plate with holes drilled for screws. Looks like it might slide in behind the bumper cover.

Just a guess w/o looking closer.

Looks like a new bumper unless you can fab something up.

Is the light still there? If you rig something up, you'll need to mount a light as well.

I'd just get a new bumper.

I checked and the light is still there. It just seems a minor problem but hard to fix... Any idea how much would a rear bumper + painting + labor cost?

Oh btw anyone knows the part number of the rear license frame (the frame that is screwed to the bumper and you screw your license plate on). I can see that part "exists" on the illustration graph on infinitipartsusa.com but they don't have it in stock. When I google it all I can find is license plate frame. So if someone knows the part number please let me know. Thanks!

How did you not notice this prior to buying the car?

Shouldn't be a hard fix though.

a new bumper for that silly thing is a waste of $200-500

Just screw the plate lower then OEM spots. no big deal. It is NOT worth $300 to fix it. If you bought it at a dealership. Bring it back to them and tell them to mount the plate.

Well the dealer put their plate on and covered the whole thing... I never thought there may be a problem under there.

It's 2.5 hours away... I will probably do that this Saturday if I couldn't figure out a cheap fix.
