1/4 Mi Update...he he he

Well, here was the scene last night at in Epping, NH...

I had to drive an hr and a 1/2 on back road b/c all highways in MA were disabled due to traffic...it was the worst I can remember in a while (this is when having NAV for $2k makes it free in my eyes)...and when I got there the low temps yielded a lot more traffic than the last two times I was up there.

It was 74F when I got there...basically zero humidity...IE...great track weather.

1st Run: I raced a Woman in a Fiero...After the first 10' I never saw her again...lol...I ran a 14.34 @ 98+

2nd Run: I raced an SVT Lighting, and as is the norm when racing one, I got my a$$ handed to me...he had true slicks on too...he ripped a 1.85 60' time...and I ran a best at the time 14.21 at 99.57...I was psyched...only a 2.24 60' time though.

3rd run...I was getting desperate and foled in my side mirrors for any extra aero dynamics LMAO...and I was going against a kid who weighed about 100 lbs soaking wet in a 6 spd 350Z with full exhaust and an Injen full CAI...he was running low 14.2s all night at 99...I told him how I had gone 3 for 3 with the other Zs I raced and how I didn't feel like losing tonight...lol...so he was all amped up, and when we get to the line I cut a better light and a better 60' time (due to his spinning through first) and he was never closer than 5 car lengths...the really cool thing was that he never pulled on me even in 3rd gear which is where that car really pulls like a train! Again, I was happy...and still undefeated against 6 spd 350Zs...modded and stock.

Now...drum roll please...comes the finale...

I had had an hr exactly (look at the time slips) to let the car cool and it was down to 64F outside...I was racing a Camaro SS (325 BHP and 340 Trq) and we both pull up to the box...I chat with the blonde girl who stars my lane like I alway do b/c I have no big burn out to do...while Mr. SS lights up em silly...we then stage and I bring er up to 2500 (with my ABS/VDC override switch toggled to on and as the final yellow starts to burn I tear out of the box...I cut a .558 light while Mr. SS was trying to find the Gas Pedal I was off and running...He had a mad launch too b/c I hear all the commotion, and I figured he was going to pass me, but to my amasement (and as I redlined 1st) he didn't get any closer as I ripped 2nd and then 3rd and then crossed seeing what I thought, but couldn't believe was a 14.1~ on the board...as I picked up my slip I just had this big $hit eating grin on my face when I saw a 14.173 at 100.04.

So to recap, I had a tick under a 1/2 tank of Gas, it was 74F down to 64F outside for temps, I ran the Nitto 555R 245/45 16" Drag Radials on Rage Racing Rims that weighed in at 3lbs less than my 215/55 16" Blizzak rim and tire combo, and I used Manual Mode all night long with the VDC/ABC dissabler running. I ran my two best times, my 5th best trap speed and my 4th best 60' time.

I am now done till September...abeit a GTech Comp Run to see what that says vs. the old Gtech...and if temps are in the 40s and 50s, I bring ICE for the Plenum, TB, CAI and MAF and all else remains equal...13.9~ is 100% possible!

Did you get any more runs in that night? I guess we get spoiled at LACR where 20 runs is not out of the question if you arrive early.

bossho,

Nice times dude! You have more in it for sure, get those 60' times down. How do you like the nittos? From your post it doesn't sound like you heated them up. Do you have any pics with the nittos on the car and how's the fitment?

Thanks

To be 100% HONEST it came down to not wanting to look like a complete turd if I went through the water box and couldn't get them to spin with brake torque...so what I am going to do is wait till it rains and test it out around town somewhere safe. If it works there I will see about the track in the fall.

The hooked up better than the other tires, offer as wide a foot print as the Kumhos, but at 13lbs less per tire/rim.

I will take a pic later and post for you. They fit fine. They are actually 245/50 16's.

You don't need to do a burnout. It won't help you with street tires at all. Drive around the water. All you need is a couple revolutions to knock little rocks and other debris off. Then you're good to go. Anything more with street tires is all for show. Good luck.

Well... unless I'm wrong, your drag radial tires are DOT approved, which means they must have some tread. For what it's worth, unless the tread is completely worn off of them -- they're smooth -- I stand by my earlier comment.

Furthermore, I don't recommend a hard launch with street[/strip] tires. Instead, you need to "feather" the lauch to avoid as much wheel spin as you can. If your tires spin, the tread may actually cut into the rubberized surface at the start and free up some rubber marbles, which will induce even more tire spin.

Of course, Friend, maybe you're a drag racing expert, and you'll do quite well without my advice. Good luck next time out, and have fun with it.

Way to go!

Are you running skinnies up front?

Also, has any one run the quarter mile with the front sway bar disconnected? Not sure if this applies to rear wheel drive cars in general but Mustangs benefit from a disconnected (or better yet removed) front bar. Weight transfer to the rear of the vehicle is increased, thereby increasing rear tire grip.

Re: 1/4 Mi Update...he he he

Thanks Man. I don't take your advice as an insult in case you thought that, but if you have ever raced an auto G, you'd know that they retard up to 30% of the HP at the launch when the rears break loose so yes, the last thing I want to do is spin, but unfortunately that is never a problem really. And as people Like Bobby D will tell ya, the Nitto Drag Radials love to be heated up and burned out b/f a run...this way you get better adhesion and that will allow a harder launch. Unfortunately I have not yet figured out how to do a "HARD" launch...if I could I would be running 13.8 right now! ;-)

Keep the advice coming!

Re: 1/4 Mi Update...he he he

Thanks SixFive!

Headpaneer, I am running my winter tires up front...and no I had not even thought about that, but that may work the same way as it does on the stangs...How easy is it to disconnect our sway bars is my next question?

Re: 1/4 Mi Update...he he he

My god, BOSS!!!! I really lost confidence in my mods because i couldnt fell the power anymore, but last night had me in such shock! I was alwasy abvle to beat some coupes occasionally before my stuff, but it would be very close and upper end they might pull a little if we were going past 100+. Last night i had a meet here in NY, and i raced a friends 6spd coupe, hes an EXCELLENT driver and we went from a stop, he did a little launch and i did no power breaking, we were almost even with my bumper ahead, 2nd to third he caught up witht he bumper but my 2nd to 3rd then 3rd to 4th i just started pulling soooooo hard, he was like omg your [censored]!'s running crazy now, and on 19;s!!! I beat him numberous times by a car and a half almost 2, from a roll i pretty much was over a car every time and on the highway comin home, i know people are ognna say shi* but w/e, there was nobody on the road. It was the straightest straight away lol, so he was about 1/2 to 3/4 car's in front of me i was following him, so all of a sudden i see him taking off i instantly punch it, im pullin harder and harder, first time i ever got into the middle of 5th and we went up to like 135 140 and i ate him up, he just has intake and im vry impressed, but just shows how fast the coupe is :/ I was excited but then like dam if he did this stuff to the coupe it would be ridiculous. Anyway sorry for the long post, nice runs again, i seriously need to get to the track!!
I also ran a 5.5 0-60 and a 14.16 @ 99.2 on my friends gtech, i was shocked and on my 19's, any suggestions?? Martin
