Racing seats in a sedan (Again)

Maybe Tim can chime in on this, I read your thread with the debate between the two.

I am not a big fan of the stock sedan seats as most of us probably aren't and as most I have wanted to upgrade to coupe seats, but seeing as how they are near impossible to get a hold of and when you find them they are way over priced I have been considering buying some racing seats.

I'd like something with lots of support and that are decently comfy (most race seats aren't) So I figure if I'm going to spend almost $600 on Coupe seats that still weigh a tonne, why don't I buy some lighter weight racing seats for the little bit of extra cash?

I was considering just buying one since I'm the only one who drives my car and I'm very selfish and don't care about anyone else lol But that would look weird, I know there is a guy on here with just one but his car looks like a race car... so it's acceptable!

Anyone have any thoughts or opinions on this? The weight savings won;t really do me a lot of good but the extra flyness of having super nice seats is pretty cool!

There are race seats by Recaro or Corbeau that rival the look of stock seats, while offering the support of a race seat and being light. Downside is they are expensive at $600+ per seat.

Then there are the cheapo ebay special race seats you can get for $200/pair.

IMHO, a G35 isn't really a race car , so the only race seats that might look half decent will cost more than coupe seats anyway. You've gotta do both as well. Once race seat looks incomplete.

These are recaros and would look hot

Seats like these just wouldn't look right IMHO

It's illegal for a shop to do it.

I beleive the owner can. I'd have to search for the correct wording to really give you an answer.

I Canada it's not illegal, you just need front airbags. Besides even with the seat out we still have frontal and curtains. So We're still safer than the majority of cars on the road.

Those Recaros are sexy, but Wayne is right those red seats are soo me haha.

I found a pair of these for $450 but I think I would talk him down if I went for them. What do you think of these? They are faux suede because it lasts longer, but it pretty much feels like that super fine microfiber. They call the material RAMA whatever that is. But they look pretty nice, kinda like Tims.....just 10000X less bad ***.

those are hideous. that first set looked REALLY firm. not saying some people wouldnt want that exactly that, but i'd just be looking for the increased side bolster, not the decreased padding. you say that their "just seats", but go rent a civic for a weekend and take it on a 500+_mile trip. then comment something like that. when i used to take my civic hybrid(which im convinced took padding out of the seats to save on weight for the gas) down to va and back, i thought i was going to end up crippled. it was HORRIBLE. even short(45min) trips were pretty bad.

If you daily the car and plan on keeping the car around forever like me spend the money and get a set of Recaros like Mustang posted up. It will be more than worth it IMO. You will regret getting the cheapos

I love my suede Sparco Milano 2's. They are pretty comfortable and provide tons of support.

IMO, this is not something to go cheap with. Stick with the real name brand seats. Cobra and Sparco both make good seats that are comfortable and not too expensive if you go with cloth. If you are in a crash you need to know your seats were made with your safety in mind using the highest quality materials and not just to make a buck by copying someone else's name and design on ebay.

If you are going to race your car on track days, make sure and find out what harnesses they allow. Around here the HPDE events must have DOT approved harnesses and Schroth are the only DOT approved harnesses made. Plus they are the only with anti-submarine design. There was a guy not too long ago who ran his car into the wall with Takanka (sp?) harnesses, sunk way down in the crash and now has no use of his legs. Check out the Schroth site for all kinds of crash test videos and info.

I still use my oem seat belts on the street and my 4-pt's have a disconnect so the back part can be removed and put under the rear seat until the track days.

If you were originally going to accept the bolstering of the coupe seats, I'd opt to custom fit a set of 350z cloth. More bolstering, the manual versions are probably lighter and they still have the seat airbags I believe. Also much cheaper than $600 each and are way above el cheapo ebay quality. IMHO

I thought those ones looked nice lol

I am going to check them out this weekend and see if they are crap or not. Kind find any info on the brand though....

Snotf, when did I say they are JUST seats?

I found a company that sells sparco seats locally but I am yet to find one that sells recaros.

What did you pay for yours Tim? And how's the comfort since you DD your car. Yours are by far the best looking style I've seen.

I'm actually buying a Z this weekend with cloths seats and I plan to rip those out for orange leather ones lol But I have heard that the rail mounts are a nightmare.

These look bad azz, to bad they are so expensive. I wonder if they make them in anything that resembles my stone interior.
