Sedan sounds like roaring truck?
Sedan sounds like roaring truck?
Hi guys,
I was wondering if there was any way we could make the 03.5 Sedan 5AT's sound less like roaring trucks especially in the heat and when the A/C's on? Does that dual e-fan conversion help? If it does how do we go about modifying the car with that? Thx guys.

Re: Sedan sounds like roaring truck?
The dual electric fans actually sound louder than the clutch fan, in my opinion. Sitting in a driveway at idle, my 6MT sedan is far louder than the auto loaners I've gotten.
I assume you don't like all the fan noises at low speed. There is no choice but to keep all of these running. The engine fan is needed less than the AC fan, though. If you drive down with AC off and windows opened, the car will be more quiet. There isn't enough air flow at low speed to keep the engine and AC exchanger cool.

Re: Sedan sounds like roaring truck?
Nope i had the same exact prob or sound as him, it would be sluggish while going slow and sound like a huge *** truck with all the air int he engine or an air sound coming from somewhere that would roar, its fromt he electrical fans and nomal, i thought there was soemthing wrong but other sedan owners said its normal. As to a fix i dunno, the roaring goes away after driving it for 15 min's or driving it hard a ferw times down the street. Martin

Yea, same here, no mods yet except 7 wire grounding kit. Pick up from the stop is sluggish. I'm actually going to try resetting ECU to see if it helps a little.
Re: Sedan sounds like roaring truck?
Count me in with the same 'problem(?)'. Actually, i feel the vibration levels through the clutch and the gear shift lever (6mt) is on the higher side, though some would say it is 'sporty'. Also, of late (30k miles) i feel as if the engine is running too lean when i floor the pedal or as if the engine timing is slightly out of sync (due to the rough engine roar).
Do other 6mt owners feel the same way? The car has no problem accelerating or climbing to 6.5k rpm in a wink, but the engine does sound wierd, the noise almost borders as if the exhaust has a very small hole or something.....

6mt owner here, definately no roaring truck noises here,....... ever.
The 04 loaner I had didn't feel sluggish off the line nor can I remember any ill refined noises from the car either, sounded and acted like a 30K+ car should IMO.

Re: Sedan sounds like roaring truck?
I have an 03.5 sedan... I've noticed that if I am in parking garages going up ramps with the windows down I can hear the fan roaring ... but why would you care... this is pretty **** unless it's a lot louder than mine...
I also don't care that when I back up and hit the brakes lightly that they squeak... I got better things to worry about than the above that is for sure.

Re: Sedan sounds like roaring truck?
I had forgotten about the 6MT having electric fans - now I recall reading about it somewhere. I've been thinking the "roar" was the A/C compressor or something - the car does seem a little loud outside at idle and occasionally a little loud inside at slow speeds - but nothing unacceptable once you understand what it is.

Re: Sedan sounds like roaring truck?
Does the coupe have this roaring noise? All I hear from the coupe is the exhaust noise. I think that if it did make the same noise as the sedan then the fan roar would be drowned out by the exhaust noise. I'm jus curious.
Re: Sedan sounds like roaring truck?
We are talking about sedans no one cares about the exhaust note from the all mighty better than a sedan dear god how can they be based on the same platform coupe
j/k
Actually my sedan sounds really good... not as loud as a coupe but loud enough for me... I only notice the fan noise if I am in a parking garage

Re: Sedan sounds like roaring truck?
Hah, that reminds me. I was talking to some guy about wut car he had and he asked me what I drove. I said Infiniti G35. He asked. "coupe?" I said, "sedan". He said, "shoudl've got coupe". I hate those comments. So I asked him what he drove and he said 1.8T Jetta and I replied saying should've got a GTi. AFterall aren't the Jettas made in mexico and stuff while the GTi's are made in Germany? IMO I would consider the GTi over the Jetta. Heard of too many problems with the jetta.
