Running a vLSD 3.5 FD on a G35x?
Anyone know if i can do a straight swap for a 3.5 fd gear and a vlsd with a full pumpkin (the one thats for sale in the marketplace) on my 2004 G35x? Im not sure... any help is appreciated. Thanks.
I don't believe the front gear/pinion are off the same design as the rear so buying two sets of gears probably won't work. I may be wrong. Since you have AWD you have two differentials one in the front and one in the rear, which are given power from a transfer case. So you need double of both parts for an AWD car.
the front and rear both have a 3.5 FD but im pretty sure they are different pumpkins. I think the OP just wants a VLSD for the rear only, which should be a direct swap. I dont think a VLSD is available for the front differential.

Ok,i wanted to up my gearing to 3.7 or 3.9, didnt know that 3.5 was stock. I dont really need a lsd for launches because of my awd but i thought it may help because its only awd to 13mph.
But the minute one of your rear tires loses traction, the fronts will instantly kick in.
So i don't think you need to worry about smoking up a tire at 30MPH. If you have good tires on, you shouldn't really get any more than a squeak or chirp from them in terms of losing traction.
Before purchasing the gears, look up the labor costs of swapping out the final drives. Keep in mind you need to do two differentials, and I beleive it's rather expensive. If i had to guess, i would say you are looking at nearly $2K parts and labor (paying someone to do it) to install shorter gearing. For that much, FI would be a better investment.
I haven't seen too many RWD guys upgrade, and have yet to see an AWD guy swap gears.
