Just got engine replaced due to oil consumption

It was an 03 G35 Sedan... burning up so much oil they skipped the third test and just said oh crap we're giving you a new engine. Anyway, I was on the last month of the 6 year powertrain warranty, I only had 45k miles.

My question is: What engine did they give me? I wonder if it's a bit faster, since it's a different revision? I just picked it up and the service consultant was on lunch so the front desk lady just gave me my key, so I didn't wanna bother her to ask what engine I got.

On a side note, I got to drive a loaner 09 G37 for about a week, that baby is FAST

I believe its the same engine just a crate long block. Mine was replaced about a month ago due to an oil pump failure. Same engine was replaced and the loaner was fun too. Had that sucker for 3 wks

I was not aware these had issues. Didn't the oil consumption issue happen only in the 05+ revup motors?

It has been know to affect some DE's. I did some searching a while ago on the issue and did an OC test on my own 06x. While well below the requirements for needing a new engine, my car does burn through 1 quart of oil in every 3000 mile interval.

Alarming, yes, but consistent, and through my own OC tests, it would fail to get me a new engine.

Besides, i think most of the OC issues were buring nearly 2 quarts per 1000 miles or something rediculous like that. Still, i'd recommend some DE owners who do their own oil changes to at least monitor their OC rate.

^+1 Monitor for sure. I'm not sure quite how, but my OC has went down a lot since I first got the car. When I did my first oil change after I bought it I only got 2QT out of it!!! I went back with Mobil1 full senthetic 10-30.
It had a Nissan filter on it, so I know it's probably only seen crap oil in the past. It ended up needing a QT after about 1500 mi, and it was a QT low when I changed it around 3000-4000. I already had the same Mobile1, so that's what I went back with. On my next oil change I went with 10-40 and the OC went down some. after the next 10-40 change it went down a lot. I've also switched to Castrol Edge and Purilator PureOne filter. My OC is now <1 QT / change (3000-4000)

wow. very interesting. when i last looked into my oc, i was less than a qt. of consumption per interval. however my car has been sitting for a while now, i'm wondering how that will effect it. i'll have to see when i get it back from the shop.

Yes it was a 03 motor under warranty.

Ok thanks... from what I understand a long block is just a complete engine and a short block is missing cylinders?

Also does anyone know what else they might have replaced? Or is the rest of my car still old

Long block is engine block with crank and pistons installed and the heads with cams bolted on as well. Usually it's just the bare engine without wiring, intake plenum and accessories...basically an undressed engine.

A short block, is all of the above minus the heads. If it's a pushrod engine, the cam will be installed in the block.

That's all they would change...basically you got this

Long Block (couldn't find pic of vq35de)

And this is a short block

^ Don't listen to him... he knows nothing about engines (or anything related to engineering)

Here's the difference:

Long Block

Short Block

The dealer told me that i have a 1 yr warranty that covers the engine that they replaced and thats it. Prob the same for yours. Better than nothin. Be sure to check your valve covers before that year is up
