Thinking of getting a G35 sedan

Hello guys! new to g35D.com just had a few quick questions i LOVEEE all these sleek cars i see browsing through the threads. was hoping i could get a few opinions like DO YOU LOVE IT? :P coming from an EX civic Sedan i know its a huge step up. but how is the handling? the ride noise? etc etc. are there any critical problems like i know for civic Si's there is a 2nd gear grinding tranny issue. is there anything like this for the g35? whats a good price range for a g35 / year? i got into an accident with my civic and was given 14.75k for a total loss claim.

thank you very much and links to threads like this would be great also!!!

no, we actually mod these cars because we hate them, and bowdown to mustangs.

but on a serious note, most of your questions can be answered by searching, you'll get that alot. check the faq sticky on top of the page. lucky you, the g sedan just had a ton of new parts come out

^ Not worth the extra money imo, he could use the money saved to invest in a bodykit and 05-06 tail lights and have money left over

05-06 has a few upgraded perks, and some nicer features, such as illuminate steering controls, redesigned headlights/taillights, bumpers, cluster, console, etc. very minor though. be wary of the rev p motor in 05-06, its hit or miss, and they had consumption issues

Test driving one will answer more of those questions than the subjective opinions of us here.
It doesn't matter if we love it or hate it, it'll be yours.
Critical problems, the only ones are oil consumption issues on 05/06 with the 6MT in it, all other problems are pretty minor, like creaks, squeaks and hood hinges that may bind if you never lube them up.

$14.75k could get you a decent 04, or a high miles 05/06.
Check www.edmunds.com to get price ranges for years and mileages.

It could be worth it all depending on what the OP looks for.

While i agree than 03/04 w/Nismo kit > 05/06, there are other reasons why i chose to limit my search to 2006 only when i purchased my car. The OP could have reasons as well which is why he needs to research what he's looking for.

With $15K to spend, and depending heavily on his market, he could very well be limited to an 03/04 or a base '05. Where I live, 05/06's are still in the 18-20K range.

You should be able to find an 03 or 04 with decent mileage for that. The deciding factor is probably going to be how much you're into modding. 03/04 has more aftermarket stuff, vs the 05/06 that doesn't need modding as much (painted lower sills for instance)

The handling, IMO, is very good for a sedan in it's price bracket, and there are plenty of handling upgrades to be had.
The ride noise is not bad, could be better, but that's very subjective. (test drive)
Critical problems have already been mentioned, OC on the 05/06 w/Manual. Other than that there are some minor issues with things like the CD player. Search/stickies are your friend.

I agree with Wrathernaut - go and test drive a few and see if you like them. You're going to be driving it. I love the drivetrain and the way they handle. I am not in love with the interior. I am very much into home stereo/HT and when someone asks me about speakers it is soooo objective I can recommend some, but I will say, go and listen to some and decide which speakers you like (uhhh, except for Bosey). Good luck!

Just to give you a heads up on price and years. Search and be aggresive! I got my 2005 g35x LAST year for $14,700 with very little haggeling. Clean title, clean car.

^ Yeah, I forgot, this is normally something I tell everyone that's shopping. G35pwrd is 100% right. Dealers are still hurting enough to cut some real deals, all you have to do is tighten the screws on them. If they don't work with you, push your chair back, if the still don't, stand up, if they still don't just walk out. You will find a good price with a little shopping.
Oh and pull the "I'd like to sleep on it" thing. Many dealers will knock off more just to make the sale that day because a very high % of people that leave, don't come back and they know this, so usually if they really want to sell a car, they'll do everything they can to sell it on the first go-round.

I picked mine up a few months ago. 2003 Ivory Pearl Sedan. No major issues with it yet, except I've recently just noticed some rattling noise on the driver side front bumper when turning and driving on bumpier roads; need to take a look at that soon. But other than that, I'm loving the car so far. My advice is to just look into and test drive as many cars as possible, then start narrowing them down. The G35 is an all-around reliable and fun car to own. The down side for me though is that I live in Minnesota, which snows a lot, so I regret not getting the G35x.. Anyway, good luck searching and I hope you end up with a vehicle that you're happy with. =D
