Exclamation Ok... wtf is going on...v.Windshield Wipers

Hey guys,

Here is the situation:

My wipers are slamming on their plastic base (between the hood and windshield) and they are driving me insane. The sound is worse when its raining outside - coincidentally, "when its raining" is the time I need the wipers to work the most

So far I took out the arms and re-adjusted them to be a little higher. This turned out to be a temporary fix as the initial couple of wipes are quiet and then the slamming starts again. It slams harder when the car is on as opposed to when the car is off and I just have the key turned giving the wipers power.

Im out of ideas on how to fix this on my own and I'm all ears

PS. This might be of importance: I took the car to the mechanic and he looked under the hood. He found that a lot of the plastic screws which are intended to hold the so-called plastic base together are missing although I dont see how they relate to the wipers

And I couldnt understand what the mechanic was saying so I smiled and left

Maybe the plastic base is riding up when you drive around? you can get those stupid little clips on ebay for cheap enough.

I like how you think, but the wipers hit the base when Im not driving around as well. I'll get the missing screws fixed either way (got quoted for $65 with parts if I decide to get lazy) so that shouldn't be a problem.

Those plastic base things, once out take a bit of a push to get back in, so I don't think they would just fall back into place by them self's. Push them down maybe thats all you need to do.

When the car is off its running on battery when the car is on, it has the alternator powering it so that can be the difference in speed since its an electric motor that runs them.

You will need to replace the wiper linkage.

Holy sweetness batman.

Im going to try and replace the actual arm of the wipers before I go into surgery because, upon closer examination, the teeth on the motor have worn out the socket.

If that doesn't work, its going down.

Thanks for the link. I got the same issue so planning on doing this as well; found an old thread on this forum before, but there were no pics.

What do you mean by mess? I know you can order the 2 links or the whole assembly but not any other parts.

I took apart mine yesterday. I was expecting to see visible damage on the little plastic sockets but visually there was none. So, I thought I'll just re-grease them and assemble them back. Did that. Go to turn the wipers on and the same issue is back. Today I was driving and a funny thing happened... I used the wipers a few times and towards the end of my commute they were actually working fine. It was a cold morning and usually if the issue goes away it's during warmer temps... so I'm wondering how long this will last, and if the grease did end up helping.

If the issue does come back for me, since I don't see any one specific link being damaged, I'll just replace both of them. They are each $20 CDN from a Nissan dealer ($5 cheaper per link than from Infiniti).

My lower rod is in a terrible condition. The plastic sockets (one is worse than the other but both are pretty bad) are not even hold the rod in place. They are just there and move freely on that metal ball.

The reason Im asking is that there are rubber seals underneath the rod (first go the seals, then goes the rod, then goes the plastic socket)which seem to be missing. I need them to make sure the grip is tight.

I think I get it now.

I've come across a post saying the seals don't sell seperate. Can't confirm that.

The rod (or the link) comes with the plastic socket built-in. So you have to replace the whole link. Having a new seal would be nice if possible but I'm pretty sure you could do without it.

When you say yours move freely, do they just pop off without much effort, the movement isn't smooth and they are loose on those metal *****? Mine move, but I think the way they are supposed to.

Which dealer was that?

Markham Infiniti is the biggest rip off! (Example: all season mats 135 from them, and 115 from Alta Infiniti).

I deal with Guelph Infiniti. I am sure it includes some sort of discount. I don't buy much there, but the parts guys gives me some sort of small discount (15/20% maybe)

They are very loose and the plastic socket is not really serving any purpose. There are NO teeth
