The FINAL word on engine break-in approaches!!!
The FINAL word on engine break-in approaches!!!
Hopefully this will ultimately answer the question of how to break in an engine properly, at least in the area of gas milage, which should relate to engine efficiency and thus power. If my logic is wrong on this please let me know BTW..... I'm especially needing responses from drivers who FLOORED IT from the beginning!!!!
1. Identify current # of miles on your car, and how you broke it in.
2. Current MPG and speed on highway trips (relatively constant speed only). If you get different MPG with different highway speeds, please include....
Thanks!

Re: The FINAL word on engine break-in approaches!!
I kept the car under 4000RPMs and tried to drive it easy for the first 1250 miles. I did that probably 90% of the time. The rest of the time I floored it and raced around and had a ball. Mileage was about 12 in the city and about 17 on the highway up until my first oil change at 3750 miles. After that, city mileage jumped to about 15-17 and hwy to 20. I don't know why I'm not getting better mileage (could be that I drive like a bat out of hell in the city), but I'm now at 7300 miles and it seems to be leveling out at 17/20.
