The dealership had the car for 3 days while I was away, I told them to have a tech drive it home if they were having issues diagnosing the problem which they did but he came back saying that he didn't smell anything abnormal which I can't understand how because I smell it every day I drive the car.

The morning I brought it to them I stopped at the bank first, I didn't smelll anything on the drive there until I started it up again when leaving the bank. The smell happened instantly when the car started up so wtf....

Any other ideas?

heat shield or undercover is melting or could be heating up or something..?

Put the car on jack stands and look under the engine bay and check the wheel wells for anything abnormal...even if your no 'mechanic' and dont know what SHOULD be there, you should be able to spot something drastically out of place..good luck, could always take it back in, talk to management about your dissatisfaction because i doubt that 'checkup' was free.

You could also put it on ramps right after you drive and get under there and 'sniff around' literally... Just don't burn yourself on the exhaust

I know the service advisor at the dealership well enough now that he doesn't charge me for stuff like this so i'm pretty lucky that way. On the report is says that they check valve covers for leaks, degreased the under body and took a steel brush to the exhaust to get the caked on salt off.

I'll take all of your suggestions and start doing my own diagnosing... Keep the suggestions coming.

Thanks guys!

I have this problem also- it only happens to me in the winter when the city uses de-icer on the roads. Dealer said it smells because the exhaust system heats up and reacts with the stuff that gets splashed underneath the car and onto the exhaust. Hopefully this is all that is your problem.....

Wonder where he pulled that response from.... IMHO, it's highly unlikely that road salt/calcium chloride and heat = burnt rubber smell

IDK but it makes sense to me since that is the only time that I smell it w/ my car....then when the weather gets nice I hand wash and spray under my car it goes away

Live with it-I went through same routine with Infiniti. Even got free engine shampoo-as a result I had a stench of shampoo inside the car for a while.
Nothing failed, burned or exploded in 5 years of ownership, so it seems that climate control(heating-I do not have this smell in summer) pulls air in a spot too close to engine and allows us to enjoy the flavour of "high performance".

The Smell

It pulls in from the engine bay... To not Smell just shut off the airflow from outside....
