Tire Pressure For Goodyear GS-D's ??
Tire Pressure For Goodyear GS-D's ??
Was wondering what tire pressures evryone is running with their Goodyear GS-D's (sport model "summer" tires) ?
Max pressure (per sidewall) is 42 PSI, and I've always run my performance tires on the high side, maybe 38-40 PSI in this case. The tires are firmer with less sidewall flex, the steering response seems quicker/better, and the mileage is a little better on long hauls, but the ride is also stiffer (not a small thing for some people, when coupled with the already stiff sport suspension), and overinflation can lead to uneven wear of the center treads vs. the side treads.
When I took my car to Infiniti for it's 7,500 mile service, they rotated the tires and "adjusted" my pressure to 34 PSI - but the next morning I inflated them back to 38 PSI when cold. I don't want to wear them out prematurely, but I want the best performance I can get, too - so what's the best compromise ??
Anybody have any comments as to the long term wear characteristics and handling effects of different pressures with these tires ??

At your 7.5K tire rotation, did you notice any accelerated wear in the center. If not, check at the next rotation and then adjust the pressure if neccessary.

Thanks for the reply, King.
Wear was even across the tread after the 7,500 mile rotation. I ran 40 PSI until about 5,500 miles, then backed 'em down to 38 PSI, where I've kept them since. I'll keep a watch on them.
Anyone else with opinions/data to share ??

Re: Tire Pressure For Goodyear GS-D's ??
I ran 38 psi (accidentally I might add as my gauge was bad) for a while and finally got a nice, digital gauge and dropped the pressure down to the recommended 30 psi. That certainly made the turn in a little more slugglish. Bumped it back to 34 psi today and I think the turn in and overall response seems markedly better than it did at 30 psi.
