Sure of course the g35 can do that. Just remember to tell your friend to share some of that s*** that he is drinking so we can all be in la la land. But seriously just tell your friend not to because of the problems that will be waiting for him, and if he still does it anyway, you can also be there to tell him " I told you so" And when he starts having problems with his car just remember to say this "Couldn't have happened to a better guy!"

Don't do it!!! If you don't have the proper vehicle to tow, don't tow at all. I've towed a 2000lb camper with an RX300 with 3500lb tow rating and also with a Pathfinder with 6000lb tow rating; the differences are phenominal; can't imagine towing with a G. Plus--he won't be able to see anything behind him.
Consider that tow rating is the TOTAL WEIGHT of the camper PLUS luggage, passengers, etc, towing that 1900lb camper will actually come out to:
1900lb camper + 150lb driver + 200lb passengers + 150lbs luggage = 2400lbs!!!!!
He will fry his transmission pretty quickly....

I've got one of those hitches on my sedan and I have been pulling around approximately a 200lbs tongue weight for a few years now with zero problems (except I had to replace the rear shocks, they went out quicker because of the tongue weight). Replaced them with bilstein HD shocks to take the abuse.
In the sedan, the hitch doesn't just mount to the aluminum bumper support, it also mounts to the floor pan in the trunk area, which is very solid. I say if the manual says 1k lbs is ok w/ 200lbs tongue weight, then I'd go ahead and not risk towing more than that, however, if your trailer shop is experienced, they should be able to make the necessary enhancements to any part of your car to allow it to carry a larger load safely. Usually the brakes, engine, and transmission will have to work harder with that much more weight, they are some of your biggest restrictions. Otherwise, you are ok as long as everything is reinforced where the hitch is installed, etc.

Optimum tongue weight for towing stability is 8 - 10% of the total trailer weight. If you are towing 1000 lbs. try reloading the trailer for about 100 lbs tongue weight and see if it doesn't tow better.

I have extensively looked into building some sort of hitch for my G. your friends going to need to get a different vehicle . The rear end is very thin soft metal. If you were going to try to connect to the rear frame it would be a lot of cutting and you would now have to deal with the fact that your shock absorbing is going to cut down tremendously. Plus the amount of weight you going to add just for the hitch framing. Basically its a stupid idea, I am still struggling trying to carry a 200lb dirtbike. .....
