Trailer Load

I'm posting for a friend, and I have done a search and not found too much on this topic. I realize the manual says the tow load limit for the G35 is only 1000 lbs. Has anyone pulled more than that, and have any issues appeared as a result? One of our better trailer hitch places has offered to put a Class 1 hitch on the car so long as the owner swears he will not put a tongue load of more than 200 lbs on it, and the Class 1 hitch is good for 2000 lbs. Just wanted to get any experience that may be out ther on the forum. My friend wants to pull a camper that weighs almost 1900 lbs on a very long road trip.

Owner's manual is there for a reason (believe it or not). This will almost certainly end in a "I did something stupid and ruined my G" thread.

It is a CAR with CAR suspension. It was not designed to drag 2000lbs along.

Rent an SUV.

Your not finding a lot on this topic, probably because NO ONE would do this!

Transmission, brakes, and the fact that it's a Uni-body construction vehicle and cannot take the loads like a full-frame truck or SUV are reasons why this is not a good idea

not to mention that the tow hitch is bolted to an aluminum bumper brace that will twist and fatique all to hell with that much weight

I get worried with my 2 bikes on my car, never mind a camper.
