Sometimes it's more about NOT being the best and the fastest and just all about having fun.

I learned a long time ago to stop caring who i could beat or how fast i was. When i drive, i just enjoy it for me and that's all i care about.

If you like your car and want to have fun racing it....do it

^+1 to that
AutoX is a really great thing. I honestly think it should be part of getting your drivers license. You just learn soooo much about how to handle a car. (and what to do/not to do in a skid )
I haven't got a good chance to track the G yet, but I will.
I took both my Trans-Ams Autocrossing and also drove my friends Z31 300ZX once, it's a lot of fun for sure. I also put the TA's on the strip, but drag racing is a lot like golf, you're never as good as you want to be.

(Random side point: Mike, here's the embed code for your video, just copy/paste
Code:
<object width="640" height="505"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/JzR9eD9oUvE&hl=en_US&fs=1&rel=0&color1=0x3a3a3a&color2=0x999999"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/JzR9eD9oUvE&hl=en_US&fs=1&rel=0&color1=0x3a3a3a&color2=0x999999" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="505"></embed></object>

^^^ didnt work Ash... I copy pasted and "previewed changes" it just shows the code, not the vid... I tried to copy from the "share" on you tube and couldn't get it to work either...

I'm on Netbook now - was on Laptop when I posted before and the original vid is on desktop... I'll try to upload from the other computer next time I'm on it...

Realistically I might make it to the track 2 - 3 times a year and it was becoming hard to justify another car just for the track. I really don't have room at my house to store a trailer/race-car. I think this thread has convinced me to spend a little more on my car to make it road course worthy. I know our cars are not the ideal platform, but I just want to go out and have fun I'm not looking to make a career out of racing.

So off to the interweb I go searching for:

Brake rotors
Brake Pads
Brake fluid
Stainless brake lines
Sway Bars
Coil overs
Cheap light 18" or 17" wheels with racing tires

And some other safety equipment
Take your time and have fun. Until youre getting paid to pass someone dont worry about it. The right driver can make E30's and Miatas look untouchable. Upgraded pads and fluid are enough to get you going. I had the same thoughts as you last year. The G is a great entry luxury sedan, but understand you can have fun on a track with a hoopty! After some cost benefit analysis I picked up a bone stack 95 Mustang GT to play on the track with. The G is faster for now but making a Mustang faster has been done a couple times before. Good luck.

IDK. I guess they must have disabled video embeds in this section
Tried the code here, preview showed code only. Pasted the same code on a reply to the NorCal board, preview shows video

I completely agree with the above.

You and I have very similar cars (both 05 6MTs) with springs. My car did very well out at Miller, which is a very fast course. The only thing I would do different, knowing that I'm far from pro, far from the fastest, and ONLY going to track my car 1-3x a year, is put in better brake fluid and have dedicated track pads. All of that costing me $200/year.

IMO, it would be overkill to do full suspension, separate set of wheels/tires if you're only planning on going a limited amount of time.

Like I said, my car handled great and I passed a lot of cars that I shouldn't have, but in the end it's about having fun, which I surely did. After the 10th lap or so, the only thing holding me back was my brakes after the straight, which was about 90MPH (my pedal was getting mushy).

About your PM, I think for "club" events and small stuff you might not need to take the intro course, but I think it's worth every cent. For open track days, official Miller events, it's definitely required.

I'm hoping to make it out there once or twice this year and if so, I'd be happy to head out there with a fellow G owner. I went out with another S2000 (which I worked).

for those mentioning brakes... I'd like to add that the 03-04 brakes dont cut it even with upgraded pads and high boiling point fluid...

I had brake major fade and at one point went off the track with no brakes... I wold never run again with OEM 03-04 brakes.

This is the primary reason I got the Akebonos... 05+ should be fine - but for those with 03-04 (Altima size) brakes, stick to Auto Cross until you get bigger brakes.

He's got an 05, so he should good. I knew the 05-06 had better brakes I wasnt sure how much better.
Nothing has given me more full on butt pucker than tapping the brakes and not much happens. But brake modulation is a skill I'm working on this year.

Good point, I always forget the 05-06s have upgraded brakes.

Like I said, I ran a solid 25 minutes pushing my car pretty hard and did fairly well. I put on new OEM Rear Pads (a lot of people swear by these for light track use as they're braking point and dusting is good and reliable) and not until the last 2 laps did I notice brake fade stopping continuously from 70-90mph. Fluid + Pads + SS Lines (to reduce flex) should be an easy solution for you and if you decide you want to pursue it further, then looking at BBK, Lightweight Rims, Full Suspension, etc. seems logical.

My G has been on the track at least 3 times a year since I've ad it, Ive driven Spring Mountain, PIR, Willow Springs (Big, and Streets), CalSpeedway and Buttonwillow. I get good use of the BBK, sways, and Coils, not sure how much the GtSpec braces actually do but they are on there.

Here is my car when it ran Spring Mountain the first time when it was 3 mos old, stock except for the 245/40's:
