Re: G35 sedan vs BMW E39 5 series
Yes I understand this everyone and i Like your imput but the original subject was E39 5 series vs the G35, not the E60 and also said inline 6 models not V8. i do to own a 525i and wanted to compare what people thought what was better on each and what was not. it's not that big of a deal, it was only for ideas so please read corretly before saying something. thank you but i do like your input

E39 or E60, it does not matter. Other than fun to drive factor, the 5 series bimmers are a class above the G's.

Boyoboy78:
The G is way more powerful than the BMW in-line 6's, particularly a 525. However, the rest of the BMW is better quality than the G; but you also pay for it! The G is a bargin for what you get.
Now I'm waiting for the G coupe to be compared to the 645. Well lets see, the G coupe looks as good or better, is on par with power, and costs about $35K. The BMW 645 that I saw at a dealer last week was going for over MSRP, they we asking $90K.!!. I'll take the G.

Not according to the reliablility surveys that track problems per 100 (or 1000?) vehicles. Nissan/Infiniti topped BMW while Lexus was at the top.

Re: G35 sedan vs BMW E39 5 series
True the BMW is in a class above the G but it does matter if it is a E39 or E60. the E39 has a better interior fit and finish then a E60 and drives different as well a major difference in Size. The G can and will be comparied to the 3 and 5 just because it can be due to the fact that just because its a BMW doesn't mean it is better then a G. a major problem with BMW and most german companies is that a lot and i mean a lot of the products that go into there car are built by different sub contracted companies from Germany or South America and etc etc etc. The Japanese companys such as Honda or Toyota and Nissan have there products mostly built and designed by there own company which a lot of the times turns in a less expensive to buy car as well the dollar ratio to the yen or Euro is off. sure the leather in a BMW is nicer and the interior materials might be better in most areas, But The G is very comparable to the 3 and the 5. Motortrend even pointed this out and they are professionals. just because something has a higher price tag don't automatically think it has to be better. in most cases it would be true but not always. As i said this was a question about what you thought was better about each car. NOT to be making posts about the 5 will always be better and why make the comparison saying its stupid LOL. I say if you don't make the comparison then your stupid not too cause i own both a G and a 5 and love em both and know each others cars weakness and strengths

Re: G35 sedan vs BMW E39 5 series
class wise, the 5 series higher, but the E60 545i will blow away the G35 sedan. I'm not talking about speed only, but It's interior is way better compare to the older E39 as well. I still think the G35 sedan should be compared to the 3 series...cus of the similar price range. Of course, the G35 is a better bargain than the 3 series.
Re: G35 sedan vs BMW E39 5 series
LOL r u serious you think the interior of the E60 is better then the E39 LOL, your crazy! the E60's interior has been bashed from day on on how now it looks cheaper and feels cheaper. I Know i went to try all of them out LOL no way, the interior of the Acura TL even looks better then the E60, yo man you just made me laugh hard no way LOL
Re: G35 sedan vs BMW E39 5 series
yes i am serious. E60's interior getting bashed? so what? I think the interior of the E60 looks better than E39. The 5 series' exterior design has been bashed quite alot as well, but I'm starting to like the E60 alot. If you feel the E39's interior is better, so be it. I don't care. Back in the days when BMW introduced the new E46, ppl kept saying it looks like [censored] compare to E36, but what now? Wow, E60's interior has been bashed so much? Do I care? Do I have to think the interior sux for the E60 just cus ppl like you dislike them? Lol you made me laugh.
Re: G35 sedan vs BMW E39 5 series
First, congrats on the the purchase of your G. I bought mine last Dec and I still enjoy driving it. Recently one of my friend's dad bought a 530i. My friend took me out for a spin in it. First impression was it's a great car. I was really happy with the seats. Performance wise it was par with G. However, I like the torque in the G better :-) I have to admit the 5 is just a more refined car but I'm still extremely happy with the decision I made of purchasing the G. Even if I had the monies to buy the E39 I would have still bought the G because that's just my preference.
Re: G35 sedan vs BMW E39 5 series
As a previous owner of an E39 5-series (528-I sport). I would have to say the "G" and 5 are two different animals it's easy to compare the two cars length wise, but other than that they are on two different levels. I'll get this out of the way now the "G" will annihalate any of the " stock in-line 6" E39 5er's in acceleration. Watch watch out for the Dinan, AA, Hartge or Alpina conversions though. The handling of the five is secure and flat, the "G" is more nimble due to considerably less wieght. My 5 was also considerably more luxurious - it had every option for the time Heated 16way Comfort Seats, Sport, DSP system, Rear Shades, FoldDown rear-seats, etc. The car was over 50K in 1998 when we took delivery. I also owned 3 E36 3 series cars before the 5 some I am pretty fimiliar with BMW. The G is a great car but the compromises are obvious. In my opinion the E60 interior ("05" M5 excepted) is considerably down market from the E39 series - kind of like how the previous S-Class (Big Body Benzes) Mercedes are superior to the current version- again interior wise.
I say wait for the "05"M35/45 for a more level comparison. On one last note I think the last of the E39 5 Series car are an excellent value if you find one at a good price.
