G35 sedan vs BMW E39 5 series

As a proud owner of a 2004.5 G35 sedan leather model I like to compare my car to the 2001-2003 BMW E39 model 5 series. I noticed that the ride quality my not feel as heavy as the BMW but in comfort it is not to far behind espically in cornering. My family also ownes a 2002 BMW 525i and comparing the two i noticed the G has flatter cornering and a lighter and quicker steering. Interior wise the BMW does have a nicer interior but it did cost us 11K more when comparing the two from new. Also wanted to add the a 90-91 BMW E34 model M5 has about the same performance numbers as the G. Anyone have any thoughts on this. I really would like your input. by the way please feel free to write about this subject a lot since i am very intrested in what EVERYONE thinks Thanks

Re: G35 sedan vs BMW E39 5 series

My previous car was a 540 6speed. The G 35 feels more lively, tossable, and perhaps has more lateral grip, but not by much. The 540 has a superior combination of ride and handling, is quite a bit faster in a straight line (while returning about the same fuel economy as the G), has a smoother engine, and is much quieter. It is better in almost every respect. Of course, it should be because it is double the price. I really think the G35 is more comparable to a 3 series. It also breaks down a lot....as far as total ownership experience goes I like the G35 better.

Cook and brownies are right. If you're comparing, compare the G35 to the 330i.

If you want to compare a car to the 5-series, compare the new M45 when it comes out to the 545i.

Re: G35 sedan vs BMW E39 5 series

look at all the stats from dimensions to performance to interior room. for the inline 6 models, I think your the one who is stupid LOL. The G35 is to big next to a 3 series and about the same size as the E39 BMW inline 6 models. Besides who cares this is for fun, negative comments like yours are petty so please stay away LOL.....LOSER

Then you're the loser because the 5 series will always win against the G35! Why do the comparison? That BMW is better in almost every way.

Which it SHOULD be because it's in a different class. Dumbass.

Want to add: I'm not talking down to the G35. I'm getting ready to spend my $30,000+ on one - you bet I think it's good.

Re: G35 sedan vs BMW E39 5 series

Well We own both a G35 and a 5 series and as an owner of both cars I can surely tell you that the E39 Model 5 is not much better then a G35, plus is it did cost 11k more I would hope it is a little better. there are some areas in which the G is better then the 5 and there are other areas in which the 5 is better then the G. as i said they are not to different except in price. I think you should do your reasearch a little better Buddy. by the way what's your problem??

no problem, boyoboy. Just expressing my opinion and participating in the discussion. Sorry that I disagreed with you, but sometimes that happens.

Re: G35 sedan vs BMW E39 5 series

I haven't owned a 540/545, but I have smoked them in the corners, straights, from a roll, from a start, etc... and that is without nitrous. I have sat inside and the interior is nice, but it doesn't seem that much bigger than a G. I like the interior of my car better than the 545 (6MT sedan: interior is black with aluminum trim). However, I don't think the G's with the tan interior or those that come with an automatic look better than the 545's interior. Just my 2 cents. I am sure there are some electronic features and the quietness that is better than the G, but I happen to like how my G growls and dont mind being without those electronics. The G fits me just fine. I don't think I would get that car if I was going to spend the extra $$$. Now the new M5 is a different story.

Re: G35 sedan vs BMW E39 5 series

As the previous ovwner of several BMW's and current owner of a 540 and G35 coupe, I have an opinion on this subject!

The BMW 5 series is a way more refined car in every respect over the G's.They do almost everying perfectly. However, the G's have a higher fun factor, more sportiness, and more power than the 325's 330's, 525's and 530's. The G and the 540 have about the same power. And of course the G does all of this for thousand less.
As others have pointed out though, even though the G's are similar size to the 5 series, they really are only comparable to the 3 series. The 5 series is just so much more refined and luxurious then the G it really is not comparable.

Boyoboy78:

I understand the need to compare the two cars. But, they are totally different animals. I don't think anyone who has the money for a 540 would buy a G35 over the BMW. When the new M45 comes out, is it fair to compare the G35 to it? I don't think so!!!

Re: G35 sedan vs BMW E39 5 series

I'd like to chime in on this too.I own an '04 545i and a G35 sedan that i just got a month ago. While the G35 is a very fine machine it does not compare to a 5 series(at least not to a 545).The Bimmer does everything perfect and better than the G.....acceleration,cornering more back room,braking...but like i said there is no better buy for the buck than the G sedan or coupe.

Just my 2 cents.
