Hey I'm new here...

...just bought a car last night. It is in great condition other than the fact that there are some serious swirl marks in the hood. What can I do to diminish this (if anything)?

Thanks all.

Welcome! Congrats on the new ride

For the swirl marks you might be able to buff it out if you know how to use an orbital polisher/buffer with the right compound or else just contact your local detail shop and get your car detailed so you don't gotta mess with it

Thanks for the info...is it because someone wasn't washing it correctly? What kind of detail should I have done? Any specific products or services I should make sure they use?

Sorry if these are horrible questions...thanks again.

OP, there is a post of some guy who did an INCREDIBLE job getting terrible swirl marks out of his car. Do a search, it was a black sedan. I'm assuming thats what you have since that's a common issue with black colored cars.

Welcome, +1 on browsing the detailing section and posting a pic of your car.

Yes, the swirls are likely due to improper washing technique or possibly a botched attempt to polish the car with the wrong equipment/materials.

welcome to driver..for swirl marks id get it proffessionally detailed. might be a couple hundred bucks bu will be worth it. you could also try the clay bar 3 step method, most kits come with all 3 components and with instructions if u havent used the kit b4..ohh pics too!

I think I am going to do this. When I open the trunk, I can see left over wax from the crappy job that the last guy did...so I think he is my swirl culprit.

Not exactly sure where I want to take it yet - I might wait until spring so I am not driving nonstop through snow and sleet.
