As you guys know I currently have a desert platinum colored sedan! I really wanted and liked the ivory pearl so I am planning on repainting it that! What I was wondering was is this going to be a pain to flip the whole color? Cause obviously I want it to look as if i bought it pearl white.

Depends on how complete you want it to be.

At a minimum you'll have to pull the door panels and spray the inside of the doors and the jambs as well. You'll also probably want to do the underside of the trunk and the visible area you can see when the trunk is open.

The bitch is the engine bay. You can skip this, or some guys have had their bay partially painted without yanking the engine.

Obviously the more you do, the more work and $$...but it will be closer to the car actually being IP.

Nothing screams cheap paint color swap than opening the door on a red car and seeing a blue door jamb. That right there will lower resale value as well.

Yea i definately want to do the door jams and trunk. i would want to do anything that can possibly be done except for probably the engine bay cause that will definately be a pain!

on top of the 3k for the ip paint job add atleast another 1k for the jambs

Yup for a quality job that they strip everything so there is no tape lines and use a quality paint like ppg or dupont it will be atleast 4-5k. Not really worth it imo. I would rather sell the car and buy one that is the right color. In my opinion if you are going to do a color swap i would do something custom. Not graphic but mayb a subtle candy or nice metallic. If you want an oem color might aswell buy a new car

If your into pearl white, don't just do Ivory Pearl. Then it will be just another stock color. Go with a different kind of white. Lexus's white is very elegant. I believe it has a hint of blue as well?

desert platinum is such a rare and nice color.. why the color change?

The blue hue is the pearl that is in the pearl overlay. Its painted white then 2-4 coats of pearl is shot over it. You can pretty much put any color of pearl over the white and it will give it that hue

+1 I like my IP but if I was to do white again, it wouldn't be Infinitis white. There are better stock colors out there from other car manufacturers.

I just dont understand why anyone would do a oem color whether its a tricoat or base/clear its still stock color. A candy or one of duponts hot hues will be a little more for material but will give you a custom car and not just another car on the street. If your looking to be noticed you want a good color but if you dont oem is the way to go

Alot of people do other OEM colors so they can do paint matching in the future should they need to get a panel repainted. Hard to do when you go with a full custom color

Just depends. With candy yes it will be hard since with every coat it gets darker. That is also true with the oem whites that are tricoats. Thats why everytime we work on one we have to do a test panel to see how many coats of pearl are need to be applied to match. Only thing if a shop knows what they are doing they can blend the color both ways outside the panel to match. Most people wont be able to tell a car has been resprays but ofcourse people like us can tell the slight variation of color difference
