Damn you, why couldn't I have seen this photo before I went with the Duplicolor silver brake caliper paint???? I think if I don't go BBK, I will need new calipers since there was so much salt damage on mine. I sanded and cleaned all parts of it, but still didn't look new.

I did EBC USR Rotors in front and sanded the rear rotors along with the brake shims and painted them black w/ Duplicolor caliper paint. The red on the front is the EBC Read Stuff pads. I actually bought Yellow, Red, Black and Silver paint before I settled on Silver. I just wish it was the glossy smooth look like the BBK's have.

To the OP, I do like the Red, but wanted to keep mine lower profile since they are not BBK. I took a lot of input from this forum before finalizing on color for OEM calipers.

I once considered painting mine red. Now I'm glad I didn't. I do need to do something with them though.
Probably just going to go with black.

So i was just wondering how much you have to brush the calipers before you can paint them? it seems like its taking forever to clean these up.
The bracket on the top in the picture (shiney one) is the one i worked on for a while, did you guys make them like that before painting?
Any tips you guys have?

Don't call attention to ugly calipers.

I didnt have a lot of corrosion on mine(yours look pretty bad). I basically wiped mine down with lacquer thinner. I unbolted mine from the car but didnt undo the brake lines. Taped everything off, fenderwell, sides of fenders and then sprayed basecoat and clearcoat. I cut some of those plastic 4x4 pieces of fake wood we use at work and propped the calipers up on those when painting. Had to move the caliper around a bit when painting so Id get all the nooks and crannies. Calipers are pretty rough to begin with so paint adhesive usually isnt an issue if youre using automotive bc/cc

I used brake cleaning fluid to get the chunks off, then used a brass wheel brush on a drill to polish them up before painting. Definitely time consuming, but worth it to me so the paint is going directly on the metal and not over a layer of baked on brake dust.

Here's a bracket before cleaning and after cleaning/brushing, and everything else after cleaning/brushing. The dark shades in the last pic are from poor lighting. The one rear bracket that's really shiny was painted silver as a test, but I wanted black for everything. I've since painted everything black, but haven't installed anything yet. I want to cure the paint in an oven first.

I used VHT High Temperature Caliper Paint in gloss black. Rated at 900 degrees and comes out of a can. Directions say to bake it at about 200 degrees for about an hour to fully cure the paint. Don't have a spare oven, and don't feel like stinking up the house, so I'm looking for alternative methods to get them baked.

You don't need to bake em Buckeye. I used a can of brush on gloss black paint and it comes out great as long as you add clear. They cure in only like 20 mins but is better to leave the car sit overnight without driving
