450 MILES per Fill Up on a G35x!

Ok I don't average this on each trip but hoping I'll come close. I recently started taking a new route to work. It's an extra 10 miles on the highway but it's less traffic and more predictable. As a result, I was able to achieve about 450 miles on a single fill up. I never let the tank run to empty so I snapped 2 pics at the halfway mark but you can see I got a hair over 225 miles (took the pics as I was slowing down for ez-pass). This was really surprising for me... in the previous months with more stop/go traffic I was only getting 380-390 miles per fill up.

yea, it was a pretty nice surprise. i definitely do not get this on weekends, only during my m-f commute. my total commute is about 90 miles round trip, of which 90% is highway, 10% local. try to keep the revs low, average 65mph (i'd go faster but there are TONS of police on I-95), and let off the gas on downward sloping roads.

So are you basing the 450 on the proration of the 1/2 tank @ 225 miles, or did you actually make it to 450? I ask because I find the top of my tank to be a little taller than the bottom half. That being said, I drive highway all of the time(40K/yr) and average about 23.5mpg, so I can usualy stretch a tank til around 420 before I get really uncomfortable. I wonder how much it would improve if I ran premium vs. regular on highway trips.... I know here comes the premium is a must ****'s, lol!

It always seems like the second half of the gas tank disappears much faster than the first half

the gas tank is not a perfect shape, check it agian in a few days/miles.

I get ~220ish per half a tank also. non X

I can get 400 miles out of a tank if I let it run empty

I get to about 400 miles when the gas light comes on with about 50/50 city/hwy.

But I'm a 6MT, not an X.

I seem to get noticably less miles on the second half tank as well. I get to about 400 miles and put 18 gal back into the tank.

+1 on less miles on the second half. I usually get around 300-320 on a fully tank. I do about 90% hwy 10% city.

I wanted to note that every car has an optimal speed and rev that obtains the highest mpg. Anyone know what it is for us? Maybe those of us who have gone 350+ miles on a single tank can chime in on maybe their speed and rev? Thanks!

I also take I95 and can't stand the cops. For those of you who drive from NY to CT watch out around exit 12-15 and 3-6!

you're probably right about top half being larger than first half.

i have no doubt good mileage can be had on a 6mt but i figured this was pretty good for auto + awd

i actually go from NJ -> CT, used to take the GWB to I95 but morning traffic blows so i know stay on the NJ side and take the Tappan Zee over. It's an extra 10-15 miles but traffic is much more predictable, and now I get better mileage, ha!

I seem to get my best mileage around 75-80mph or at least it does not suffer until after that....,.
