+1 on less miles on the second half. I usually get around 300-320 on a fully tank. I do about 90% hwy 10% city.
I wanted to note that every car has an optimal speed and rev that obtains the highest mpg. Anyone know what it is for us? Maybe those of us who have gone 350+ miles on a single tank can chime in on maybe their speed and rev? Thanks!
I also take I95 and can't stand the cops. For those of you who drive from NY to CT watch out around exit 12-15 and 3-6!

Yep, a "city cycle" really kills the MPGs in these cars. In 30% highway/70% city driving, my G tends to see ~310-320 miles on 16.5 gallons or ~19mpg. In pure highway driving, that number skyrockets to around 25-26mpg (440 miles on 17 gallons). I've seen as highway as 29.8mpg (505 miles on 17 gallons) going 60mph-65mph with hardly any grade or wind. However, here in Kansas City, it's very windy and quite hilly which kills highway mpgs.

and to OP second half is always less than the first half. u should actually let it run till light comes on and then come back with some info

When I first saw the thread title, I thought it was reasonable to get 450 on a tank. That's only 22.5 MPG if you ran it dry, and 24-25 isn't unheard of with our AWDs. I've gone over 400 miles on a tank several times, and I'm usually at 75+. But doubling up from 225 because the gauge says half? That's like saying your car gets 50 MPG because some plug in monitor showed 50 when you were slowing down. Sorry OP, but this is serious noob territory.

haha thats what i was thinking i get like 280 miles a tank although i do drive like a doucher but i SWEAR that when i turn off the car then turn it on again that my fuel gauge just went down like 2 gallons lol.

The stock fuel gauge is highly inaccurate anyway. On a full tank, mine is about 1/8" past the FULL mark anyway. So who is to say 1/2 tank is exactly half? To be honest, you could be off 1 or 2 gallons there and that would make a huge difference in your calculated mileage. Plus, as others have said, the fuel gauge is not linear. The closer it gets to E, the faster the needer tends to swing. This is common in a lot of cars.
Best way to get a ballpark, fill the tank to FULL, reset the tripmeter and drive around. Next time you need gas, go to THE EXACT SAME PUMP and top off the tank. Record the number of gallons you pump in to FULL and then divide that into the miles you just drove. That will get you in the ballpark, but there is still some room for error. Do this for a month or so and average it out and you'll find your fuel economy.
