quickest way to the fast lane

hey everybody,

I have an 04 g35 sedan, which I am very happy with but will be even happier if I could get some better performace out of it. Does anybody have any suggestions on how I could gain about 20 horses without spendiing a fortune? all suggestions are welcome along with dealer links and product names.

thanks

It costs to play when it comes to the G. Your easiest most basic mods i can recommend are Z tube+ K&N drop in filter that'll be about 70 dollars, motordyne 5/16 plenum spacer for 200.00-300.00 depending on where you get it, and for exhaust a HKS axle back (around $400) with the G coupe mid pipe (used for 50-100 depending where you are) and a HR Y pipe if you can find one in the marketplace. Getting big gains out of these cars without going FI (turbo or supercharger) is costly though.

Also see the Sedan FAQ stickied at the top of the page, lots of answers there.

i could care a less about horsepower with my car yes i have some aftermarket things but i am leaning more towards great sounds and looks ... and IMO what's 20 hp going to do lol are you looking to get a lil extra HP just to make you car a lil more faster ?? your going to spend some money to get a nice gain of solid 20 hp ... dont think like 100 bucks are two ill do that for you ... these cars will put a HOLE in your wallet so be ready

Just like the others have stated... these cars are designed VERY well from the factory. It's not like a camaro z/28 that will gain tons of power from bolt ons... these cars have had special attention to detail and are fine tuned from the factory. The MD 5/16" plenum spacer will give you a noticeable gain.. then I'd recommend exhaust.. but instead of piecing together a bunch of different combos... just get the Stillen Gen 2 exhaust it's all one piece and as close to true duals as you can get. The z-tube and stillen airbox is an excellent mod for sound... but the power gain is minimal

when you guys intakes and exhaust and all the other goodies it says horsepower 7-15hp i really dont think your getting all that .. i have coupe middy which is just noise and JWT pop charger z tube and yea it all sounds good and iv spent a few bucks and i dont think iv gained all the power but it sure does sound great ...

^^ how about you tell us a price range your looking to spend and I'm sure we can tell you the best things to work your way up to a solid 20hp

I wouldn't say the midpipe would give any power at all. It is all just for sound. I can't say I've read anywhere where someone said you would get gains with it. And same with z-tube and popcharger. I just stated above you wont notice any gains at all from it... it just sounds awesome

I don't know about that.

My car is alot more fun to drive now, and I haven't done all that much to the car (yet).

Stillen intake / MREV2 knock off/ 5/16 spacer / HR y / Coupe Mid-pipe

The car is more responsive in the lower/mid-range RPM, and taking off normal driving.

I would suggest you do at least some of what I did. the Intake and Z tube does not do much, that is pretty much understood by the whole community.

Feel it for yourself in your car or a friend's.

Cost was pretty cheap actually.

Intake - 150
HR Y - 45
Coupe Mid - 40
MREV2 Knock off - like 80 bucks total including sand paper and a new disk for my grinder
5/16 spacer - 130

The aramid gasket and coolant bypass was like 50 something from motordyne's website, they don't really do much so I don't count that.

So around 450 bucks spent on engine modifications.

RE: Nitrous - I would not call nitrous cheap, at all. Back when I was a little racer 6-7 years ago I ran an 80 shot in my Acura. The kit was like 900 after all the add-ons, and filling up the bottle was around 40-45 bucks every time. I was filling that bottle like it was gas, like every couple days the juice is addicting.

Don't get me wrong looks are great, there are alot of different things you can do to the exterior to make it look pretty hot... if that's your concern go with that.

+ I believe even with nitrous you would still have to account for drivetrain loss.

I'm not too sure you can get 20hp at the wheels with that list RSergent2. Since you brought up driveline losses. But you're ripe for an Osiris reflash though. That would probably get you over the top.

Yeah I don't think I've hit 20whp either but the performance increase is clear and as a result has made driving the car a more enjoyable experience.

RE: Osiris - Aww man I know I want to get it tuned so bad but I had to address the 4X4 stance before doing anything else to the car. It was either the cobb accessport, or a set of 2nd hand tein basics.
