Is AWD harder on tires?
For those who have experience with the RWD and AWD G35s, do you go through tires quicker with the x models than the others? I understand having power routed to all four wheels will make a small difference in tread wear but will the costs be significant over time?
The short answer is no. Unless you are doing all wheel burnouts (pretty sure that's impossible in this car unless you're on ice), then it should have no effect on tire wear.
I don't see how it could wear out faster that rwd or even fwd. It all depends on the tire and conditions as mentioned above. And our cars switch from awd to rwd after 10 or 20mph (so I read on here?).
That's a relief! My dad was telling me that AWD is murder on tires, which is sort of ironic because we had two Subaru Bratts that he loved and they had AWD. I wonder if he was referring to the 'binding' that can occur with some systems during tight turns(steering turned until locked). My guess is the G35 set up doesn't exhibit this characteristic. I'm glad I'm not one to roast tires either.
I'm not entirely confident I know what that means.
I'm sure someone will explain here in a minute. Thanks for all your help guys! For those of you who have read my other threads, I've decided to go with the Infiniti afterall. After you knocked some sense into me, I figured I'd pass on the Benz for now. Maybe when I make a little more money...? I'm real tempted to buy a G online sight unseen. There are some really good deals out in markets where AWD is not in high demand.

If these awd suckers came with 6spd this car would of been golden. Otherwise it is what it is
. And I don't doubt buying a X even though a 6spd would of been more ideal for my likings.

^ i do...
sometimes i regret not getting a RWD/6 speed.
I dont think i need the AWD, but honestly i will never know when the AWD has helped me, since it goes on and off by itself once it thinks its slipping.
The extra diffrent and T-case fluid.
But back on topic, the car shouldn't wear tires anymore then normal. And yea i dont think anyone can/has done a AWD burn out in one of these.
