how about a MOVE OVER LAW for Prius's doing 55MPH in the "fast lane"?
Its a good law to have but the fine is rediculous. Shouldnt be anymore than a $50 violation.

Did you not read any of the posts above? It's supposed to be for the safety of officers who have pulled someone over.Originally Posted by Get_some35

As others have mentioned, more than likely the lawmakers are more interested in the extra revenue than anything else though.

+1!!! But we have to share the roads with them, even though they don't care to share the road with anyone else... Originally Posted by RADIOGUY21

being a FF/EMT working accidents the highway is the scariest place to be. please slowdown and move over, could mean my life or someone just doing their job.

Agreed. I have no problem with the law, just the excessive fine. Especially since the majority of people don't even know it's a law.Originally Posted by AgentRice

I understand that's the logical/practical application of the law but most might not understand it that way. All they know is that have to move over and slow down. I think alot of people would be willing to do alot of stupid sheit in order to comply with that (to avoid a $175 ticket/moving violation)Originally Posted by FederalG
If you cannot safely move over, you need to slow down. Cops know when you've made a conscious effort to acknowlege them. We've had no problems with this law in VA.

It's obvious none of you ever held a job requiring you to work on the side of the road. Spend a few days out there and you'll love this law.
My father was seriously injured and nearly killed because of someone not moving over.
I myself previously worked for as a state engineer and was always out inspecting bridges and tunnels for five years and had my share of close calls. There have been times I have had to dive off the road because someone drifted into the cone setup reaching for a phone or something. You stand on the side of the road with your back to traffic while they do 60 and not slow down at all. You'll change your mind then. 60 seems slow inside the car, but it's fast when you are the one in the breakdown lane.
People do not slow down at all even with cones and flashing lights and police details. One trick I used to do was ask the cop to run his radar gun in order to slow people down. Amazing how people slow down then.
I have no prob with this law. I have been moving over for construction crews and cops since I started working on the road back in 1999. I have no sympathy for offenders. I'd write the ticket myself if I could

^ +1. In Virginia - it's a class 1 misdemeanor. The maximum fine is $2500 or a year in jail or both. There are too many roads around where I work that are named for Troopers and officers cause some ******* failed to obey the law. I was assisting another officer the other day on the interstate and a rearview mirror skimmed along his back because the person failed to slow down/move over. Try it for yourself - pull over on the shoulder and then get out of your car. Walk around for a few minutes. You'd appreciate the law if it was your @ss getting hung out to dry because people have no common courtesy.

Wouldn't be a problem if Jake pulled people over in more appropriate areas. I've seen it all!!!!
