Why don't you read some of the previous posts... I hope you get a flat on the drivers side of the highway... maybe then you'll realize the law isn't so dumb...

Whatever man...i'd never wish harm on any motorists (or even cops, as shady as some of them can be).

Common sense tells most of us to slow when we see the flashing lights, but I can see them giving out 750+ tickets because another driver wouldn't allow a merge or some other incidental.

My concern isn't the law, but how fairly it will be enforced.

I will say the police will write these as often as possible, due to the revenue it will help the county/city/ state, but they will write it more to those who violate it & don't even know the " new Law"

I agree, how fairly will it be enforced? because if they are outside the car and you go past they can't get a clock on the MPH on your car if they are outside writing a ticket, walking, etc. If they pull you over for this & say that you were not under 20mph and/or didn't move over, you could contest it & fight the ticket.

This is just another reason why I own a PPL membership, for my attorney to get me out of moving traffic violations & stupid tickets that sometimes we don't deserve.

It's a 50 ticket. The 750 ticket is an exaggeration floating around the net.

regardless, its pretty simple to avoid getting the ticket, same as the stop sign law, sure it says we have to come to a complete stop and wait 3 seconds before going thru, but most of us roll right through unless we see a cop, same thing with this law, you see flashing lights, just follow the law and you wont be paying the ticket off.. but by no means do i agree that this is a stupid law...

IMO, it's a great law for safety. However, the fine is ridiculous. Compare the cost ($750) to other safety laws. Even a DUI isn't that much, it's $390 in California (with a ton of court fees). Then you have speeding, say 19 mph over the limit...you won't spend more than $400 for that.

Even at that all these violations will cost you no more than 2 points on your record, and this one is 3? that's ridiculous.

It truly is a way to make more revenue and what happens if you can't move over and a cop doesn't see that you couldn't and accuses you. You think the judge will take your word or the officer's?

The law really says to wait 3 seconds at a stop sign? I thought you just had to come to a complete stop. The four way stops downtown would take forever if everybody waited 3 seconds, haha.

^^

It may vary state to state. We have a California rolling stop. Some officers claim you must stop and wait a second or something before proceeding forward, however, the law he states that a vehicle must come to a complete stop before proceeding. Nothing about time.

It's been stated multiple times in this thread. The $750 is a internet exaggeration.

In Mass., it's $100 MAX for failure to comply. Not sure how many points it is here. I can find out

Unsure, but 3 secs is at least an unwritten rule. It was drilled into my head back in 1997 when i took drivers ed @ 16.

They all said "Stop, count to 3, then go"...so that's what I do. I could care less who is behind me, every red light or stop sign i come to i count to 3.

The most common ticket i hear of is failure to stop at a stop sign or rolling through. So i figure 3 seconds to avoid that just gives me more time to enjoy my G35

This law is nothing new in the South East. For as long as I can remember there's been signs posted on the highway that instruct the drivers to change lane for emergency and disabled vehicles.

We have had this law here in oregon for the past 7 years, its just common sense to change lanes if you see a cop on the side of the road...
