^The A/C controller and radio controller are one and the same. There aren't seperare boards.

Lots of really useful information here but i'm still a little foggy on the original question. I know that the stock Bose radio isn't good but with 170k miles on my G35, she's due for a replacement in the next year or two so i'd rather not sink a bunch of $$ into her right now.

So, If I install the Metra 99-7604 kit, can I just hook that up to the stock Bose radio and have it all work?

To update, I caved and picked up a Metra kit, and will just grab an old Alpine h/u to toss in. I figure that's going to be worry free long term.

I'm trying to figure out exactly what causes this problem. It appears as if the Metra Kit is just wiring harnesses. If that is true then replacing the harness should also fix the problem with the stock Bose radio?

^No. It's a new AC control circuit board (and ugly buttons)

Go to the A/V Forum. There's a sticky with my name in it. It will answer any questions you have of this, but yes, there are issues if you don't buy the right parts.

Very wrong. Metra makes thousands of parts. The "Metra Kit" is the trim finisher and a/c controls. The Metra wiring harness is totally separate. Nothing short of replacing the circuit board and/or Bose radio fixes the problem of the Bose radio not working. Only replacing the Bose radio gets rid of the problem of having a Bose radio in your car, regardless of whether it works or not. - Again, if you'd gone to the a/v forum and looked around a little, you know this already.

Only slight difference is there's no tape deck (although the hole for the tape still remains in the circuit board), and available bluetooth in 06.

Yep, headunit is shot, and since the headunit powers up the radio/ac circuit board, you need to get a new radio, preferably something aftermarket so this doesn't happen again down the road.

Honestly, I got my radio fixed by radio medics (good guys) for like $270 and I regretted it so much because with that money, I would have rather invested in a double din aftermarket with JDM

Fixed A/C and Drained Battery problem

I had the same problems with the A/C and Power drain issues. Both were caused by the BOSE stero system. After 6 months of fighting with the Infinity Mfg and local dealers and going nowhere since the warranty was expired after 4 years or 60,000 miles , I have located a local stereo shop and swapped out the BOSE radio with other brand radio. So far for two weeks , the A/C is back to normal and the battery is still good. If you are living in Orange County , Southern California. I would suggest you to contact Mr. Sonny at Rainbow Sound in Santa Ana, CA. Phone # 714-554-3644 to replace the stereo. My replacement cost $400 plus tax with the following :
1. Front Pannel Radio kit included the audio connection for the G35 ( Audio circuit board is not required if install with other brand of radio)
2. Alpine Radio with CD, USB, Audio input for Ipod . (you can select other brands , my Alpine cost $160 )
3. 1 year warranty
4. Installation free.

An additonal cost $30 - $ 40 to install the adapter to control the volume , channels at the steering wheel. Cruise control features still function as normal.

Hope it helps and I do not want to go thru the pain without the Radio, replace the batteries (4 times ), full plash of A/C and defrog not working again...Good luck

Yep, with a $160 single din headunit and the Metra dash kit, you can do it for around $300 with the steering wheel controls if you do it yourself, since crutchfield.com does some great combo deals with the dash kit.

$440 for having somebody else do it with steering wheel controls is pretty good for people unwilling to learn to do it themselves.
