Usually somewhat expensive, and quite likely yes, it will break later.

When mine broke, and I took it out, there was a refurbished sticker on it.

Long time lurker here....

My wifes radio quit the other day..... as well as the hvac controls. A hit to the front of the radio restored all to working order. After reading through all the threads here I'm going aftermarket.

Now to find a competent shop near Boston to do the work.

Car is an early '03

I really need to expedite replacing mine, it's gonna go anytime now, I just know it. I've had to beat on the thing at least once/week (often several times/week) recently

I spent about 6 months on this problem and was determined to solve it myself. I pulled out the radio probably 4 times and tried to find suspect connections and solder them. I bought a new circuit board from the stealership for $125 that worked for a month. Finally I bought a refurb radio on Ebay for $300 but got a refund of $110 for my bad radio trade-in. He will also send you back any CD's that are stuck in the radio. Here's his Ebay link http://myworld.ebay.com/ebaymotors/j...id=p4340.l2559. I haven't' had a problem since. If you are handy there is a great link from Wrathernaught (on this board) which includes a DIY video on removal of the radio. I was surprised at how easy it was to get out. https://g35driver.com/forums/audio-v...urce-list.html.

Good luck and happy driving!

So does the problem lie in the faceboard or the head unit?

I bit the bullet and grabbed a Pioneer AVH-4300DVD.

The install took most of a night, but well worth it.

I had managed to get my defroster stuck on during the winter to stay safe, but 4 months later when it started to get warmer I couldn't take it.

I even ran the ipod cable into my center console. Nothing is better than having an iPhone charger/player and the ability to watch movies.

@ DaveB - There has been much discussion on this board about this and there seemed to be a consensus that it was the faceboard. That was not my experience. I replaced the faceboard only to have the same problem reoccur. When I replaced the entire headunit it fixed it. That leads me to believe it's a power source issue with the headunit. But....my experience may not be the same as others.

I would have said that the consensus is that the headunit is the problem. I talked at length with a guy from Radio Medics (www.radiomedics.com) before sending them my headunit to be repaired. He said they see these units in the shop every week. I got comfortable that their resoldering of the connections related to the power supply was a permanent repair (better than factory) and not a band-aid fix (like a replacement crappy OEM board). I only had to send them the silver headunit box without the faceboard. Happy ever since and they even added an auxilliary input for a little extra.

Yes and Yes. Also in the mechanical bits of the disc changer, and in the lens than reads the discs. Oh and there's also the external amp for the bose-equipped units that go out too (though not as common as the headunits). They're generally just crap and not worth spending money to fix.

Under warranty though, make Infiniti pay as often as as much as possible to help make them realize how stupid it was to not issue a true fix for them early on.

When you do bite the bullet, if you feel like driving up to Savannah, I'll do it for free. It'll cost less than two tanks of gas.
