Wetsanding Headlights
#32
ok so i just got done wetsanding my headlights with 2000 (highest i could find) and all that did was scratch the **** out of them. i can barely even see into my headlights. if i get them wet though like to clean them. they go clear again. until it drys. and once its dry it looks terrible again. am i missing something here?

yes. its normal. they looks hazed and cloudy after wetsanding and them you polish them back up to a gloss and they will be crystal clear. i use all sonus products only b/c i have them laying around from detailing my car. but you cna use any polish from your local auto parts store. im not sure how well they will polish up by hand. i use my porter cable buffer and it still takes a little while to polish them up

Tdot- your right i used blue magic. i worked really well, if you headlights are less foggy than mine you should clean up really easy.
Irock- i will keep you guys updated. ill repost in a few months. it will be a good test after a long summer of 100+ heat and sun beating down on them.
Tian- nice job
Kenny- when i wetsanded my previous headlights, the polish did the trick, they look horrible after, i was freaked out but they will be good after the polish
G35x- post pics of your headlights if you can, mine have a few rock chips but they dont look too bad.

I bought the headlight restoration kit from meguires and it comes with plastx and an application pad that you put into a drill (much easier and faster than using a cloth). It cost me $20 and it has worked flawlessly for every single car I've done. Whenever my friends come over I usually polish their headlights for them, takes about 5 mins and they come out crystal clear.
