Domestic guys have been doing that for a while since V8's tend to suffer space under the hood.

as for no muffler..

Big no no,

without tuning you lose power, at lower RPMs drastically.

Quote: I'm gonna guess one of them was mine (white sedan). In one of my videos I just wanted to see how it was so I just unbolted the muffler. After I heard the sound and liked it I cut the muffler off a few inches from where it connects to the midpipe and I had a pipe welded to the rear of the bumper with a muffler tip.

LOL at those saying it is ghetto or sounds ricey. You haven't done it on the G so I don't think that opinion can be valid if you haven't heard a setup without it. It's a great sound and I'd have kept it that way had I not been forced to go the state referee for removing a smog device (my intake)...long story short, the cop was stupid, saw my CARB # and claimed my stock engine was fully modified and illegal. If you don't use any piping and put a muffler then yes, could look ghetto, but then what would you say of an exhaust setup that comes out from another location and there is no muffler coming out from the rear?
I wasn't clear that i had to provide proof if its ghetto or sounds ricey. I don't need to do that on G to change how my opinion on that is. My opinion is valid solely because its my opinion. That doesn't stop you from sharing your unbiased opinion. Having a Eclipse without one for a day in my last car gave me a good enough idea of how much i won't like it in the next car.

Rear mount turbos are real and have been around for a few years. It's common on v8s

So you're comparing apples to oranges? I'm not saying you're not entitled to your own opinion, but you're saying it sounded ricey on an Eclipse. You drive a G35 now. At stock, do they sound the same? I think not. Even if you put on say an HKS or Borla on either vehicle, will it sound the same? No. So how can you make an assumption that it sounds rice when you haven't heard it in person?

When I had no muffler I would always get asked what muffler I had because it sounded nice and deep, no rasp, and was pretty loud. It's impossible for not having a muffler on your Eclipse to give you an idea of how it would sound. Take off the mufflers on a Vette, you think that's gonna sound rice as well? I mean if you're comparing the G35 to the Eclipse, might as well say the same about a Vette, or even an old muscle car. Haven't you seen those vehicles without mufflers? They sound FAAAAR from rice. And that's why I was saying it can't be rice. In this case, your opinion is false. Even the looks, because you can't tell if there is a canister or not if the bumper hangs low. And if it doesn't, it could be a modified exhaust.

How much do they cost i went on STS website but i couldnt find their prices.

Since we we are on the subject what kind of turbo would be better, rear mount or a conventional turbo?

Also does anyone know what size bolt the muffler uses?

Rear mounted turbo's work the same way as a coventional turbo is the same with the only exception being the turbos are mounted closer to the heads. As long as you have no restrictions from the headers to the turbo(s).

The only reason people opted for that setup is the simple fact that space in a v8 is very limited. Some have opted for the stealth mod but in essence its all about space. Sometimes this setup allows you to get a bigger turbo than it would fit under the hood without fabricating or removing parts off the car.

I'm unsure of the sizing, but try spraying some liquid wrench and using a breaker bar to get the bolts off. But I'd stick with the same sized bolt.
