Need pricing advice on an exhaust system

I was just looking through craigslist and found someone selling an '03.5 G35 sedan with a stillen gen 2 exhaust on it. I want that exhaust. He told me he only has his stock Y-pipe sitting in his garage so I would need to trade him most of my stock exhaust system plus cash to get the Stillen.

What would be a good offer for the "+cash" part of this trade? Will this 03.5 system fit on my 04?

I'd think $400-$500 would be a fair price.

He's also got a 5/16 spacer and clear corners, I wonder if he'd throw all that in for $600...

ask him. that would be a fair price, assuming you share the DIY labour.

He laughed at the $600 offer... It was kind of an impulse anyway. I hadnt really been looking to replace my exhaust, but it would have been nice.

He said he hadn't yet listed the car on Auto-trader so he wanted to see how that went before he started parting things out anyway. He's asking $10k for the 03 sedan with 157k miles on it. I've got my fingers crossed.

I don't see why that's unreasonable. The full exhaust is like $950.

he'd be extremely lucky if he gets 10k for his car.

he's lucky you gave him the offer. Trust me, no one would pay a 600 premium for his car just because he has said parts over stock.

If he takes your offer and sells his stock sedan for 9400, he has a better chance.

^ Thats what he said he paid for it. He laughed because he "had only JUST put the exhaust system on."

IMO an exhaust system only lowers the re-sale value of a car. Most people don't like the loud exhausts, so that limits the people who will buy his car to G35 enthusiasts. At that, I would doubt a G35 enthusiast would buy an '03 with 157,000 miles on it. Maybe he'll come around when people aren't lining up with offers.

trust me, he will!

he will eventually "need" your stock parts. then you magically adjust offer to $500

He also has Megan test pipes. Maybe when he needs my stock stuff he'll throw those in for the $600

I would just sit on it for a while...when the car doesn't sell due to the loud exhaust, he'll think again. Getting the spacer as part of the package is a good move, IMO, but I wouldn't necessarily expect both for 6 bills.
