Power surge at 3500rpms in 1st gear (5AT)?
I know it's been discussed in past a little bit, but does anyone else experience a major surge in power in 1st well you accelerate past 3500rpms with your 5AT? If I leave from a stop using slight throttle and then tip in progressively with throttle, say 30% and keep adding a fractional amount of throttle, there is a major ramp up in power as I pass 3500rpms. It feels exactly like a turbo spooling in up in that you really have changed throttle position, but there is big surge in power over a very short amount rpm. There is nothing progressive about it. I feel the same thing when I launch the car. I flash stall the converter to around 2500rpms and the car will take off a bit doggy at first and then once it gets to around 3200rpms or so, it's like it's added 50whp and moves swiftly. It's really odd. I think this weird acceleration effect has gotten more pronouced as I've added mods over the years. Anyone else see the same thing with their cars? I'm curious if it's more prevalent in the older cars. My car has always done this.
Mine used to. Big arsed delay in power. Nothing and then bam, big surge in power. It was sorta like the VE30DE maxima. It got slightly lower in the rpm every time I added a good mod. ie... plenum, X pipe in the duals. It got ALOT better when I did the reflash. Dave, just send your ecu to TS

next time I drive Ill test it out.
Edit: nothing in first just tested it out like 20 times in a parking lot lol. But I do have some sort of boost feeling when in higher gears when rpm gets near 4k a boost in power comes in and the car starts pulling harder, but isnt that where HP and TQ cross in our car?

That's the vtech kickin in yo!!
Sorry, someone had to say it. I feel the same surge but it's not as pronounced as you are talking about. I advanced my timing 1 degree and it smoothed out a little. I'm hoping when I get tuned at Uprev next week it'll smooth out over the whole range of the power band with a/f and additional timing changes.

i know what you mean, when i hit that sweet spot it's crazy. i live right off HWY 76 and i pull super hard every time i get on. "30% and keep adding a fractional amount of throttle" pretty much just like that. i wonder some times what would happen if i just floored it, LOL.

i think mine does the same too. Driving 40mph in 5th, then slowly increasing the throttle, the revs stay at around 1800rpms, then jumps to 2500rpms. Anyone else have this too?

Yea thats not what we are talking about. I think I know what your talking about Our Torque Converters or what ever..is way different then any auto I have driven. When you take your foot off the gas the RPMs will drop, when you get back on the gas they fly back up to the correct RPM.
