If it is the filter, wouldn't hurt to turn the air on and spray a bunch of lysol in there to reduce existing bacteria/odor when you have the filter out.

i changed my filter but it still smells bad. could it be that da car needs more freon?

Sounds like you have mildew/mold in the system. Change out your cabin filter for a charcoal filter, get some Auto-Vaccine, run it through your car, and it'll smell like new again.

Only problem is that your car will smell like a freshly shocked pool for a week, but it's fine after that.

Be lucky that we have filters. I opened up my soon-to-be-father in laws blower motor in his 97 Sentra. We found a dead snake in the impeller, looked like he was chasing a mouse through the vents and got stuck.

In all fairness, the car WAS sitting for 10 months, but I've swapped all fluids, plugs, and given it a thorough detail. Who wants a freshly detailed Sentra GXE?
