Spilled engine oil in back carpet

Hey guys, I did something really stupid last week and left an open 5qt container of engine oil in the back and ended up spilling half of it in the carpet.

How in the world do I go about removing the oil besides soaking it up through paper towels? I tried cat litter but it was useless.

Thankfully majority of the oil is on the removal piece of the carpet so I can take it out, but how do I get the oil out from it? Soap and water doesn't work either since oil and water are not soluble.

Any help will be appreciated.

I'd take it to a car wash and spray the living jack out of it with soap and then use the wand to power rinse it.

Or use alot of soap and water, scrub it and use a shop vac to suck up the water. Then let it hang until try. Wash rinse, repeat

lol I looked at it and they talk about stains not 1/2 a gallon of oil

The carpet is not stained, it just has oil in it. When I run my fingers through it they get soaked in oil. I guess paper towels is my best bet

Sweet op! Gulf of Mexico air freshener!

Dawn Soap is good but damn thats alot of oil. The carpet has a plastic backing so it should not leak as long as its on the carpet and not going into the crevasses. but the plastic could have a hole. Your in a pickle. imo prob would rip out the carpet and wash it alone. Since thats alot of oil.

get one of those intake filter cleaners, those things dissolve oil pretty good, spray some of that on the carper and than use pressure washer to wash it off, Should be as good as new after that.

Spray it down with gunk engine degreaser at a car wash and then power wash the he'll out of it. Might take a few times....and make sure you bring a large trash bag to put it in after until you take it home and put it in the sun to dry for a few hours.

Dawn + high pressure car wash hose...repeat, rinse till clean. If you are talking about the carpet still in the car, keep blotting. You can pull the carpet up and clean under it, aside from that your best bet is blotting and open windows..
