Why the price difference? (Compression Rods)
Why the price difference? (Compression Rods)
When i was down in florida getting my oil changed, infiniti of tampa told me that my compression rod bushings were bad. They quoted me $652 installed but i figured that the price would be similar back home, so i decided to wait.
Today i called up my local dealership and was quoted almost $850 bucks.
I said that cant be right, called my other dealer and they said somewhere in the $800-$900 range.
So now im **** out of luck, paying $200 more than what it would have taken in Florida.
Does that seem right? should i just get the parts from Riverside and then have my dealer just install them for the labor? labor wasn't that bad, and i'd gladly pay that over tackling a job like this by myself.
What should i do?

The bushings do go bad, but the ball joint on the other end can go bad too, that's why they replace the arms. If it's just the bushing that is bad they can replace those easy enough.
Well all Infiniti of Tampa put down was that my compression rod bushings were torn, so you think the ball joints are fine? I'd just do the bushing. Dealer shouldnt charge that much to press a new one on. Way less than $850...
^^ I would still double check just to make sure. Last thing you want to do is buy the bushings and then when you take the rods off find out that the ball joints are bad and have to replace the whole thing.

Have you personnally seen that they're torn? It could explain why you're car handles like a wet pork chop and rides harshly. Either way, it's an expensive fix. Compression rods from online Nissan joints are still $300, I believe. Book time, which every shop will go by, probably estimates WAY more than needed. Probably like 3+ hours ($300= labor, supplies).
You can easily take them off the car if they are not rusted. After you remove them you can tell if the ball joint end is bad. Pretty sure all you will need is the bushing, why wouldn't you remove them yourself???
$900 Vs. $100 COME ON MAN DO IT YOURSELF A BUSHING PRESS ISN'T EXPENSIVE

Its not 3 hours, the TSB puts down 1.8 hours for both sides. When I had mine changed it only took a bit over an hour or so.
