They are going for around $350 a pair on ebay for factory part. Over $500 for labor is ridiculous. Find a local mechanic or diy. You could always get a pair of new rods and keep the old and have new bushings pressed in so you always have a spare. = little down time.

Is there a DIY? It seems simple enough to change out.

I just did this yesterday since my bushings were torn. I had nothing but a cheap set of tools also. It took maybe an hour and a half. This is a really easy job IF the nut to get the ball joint off doesn't spin with the bolt(mine didn't). Its basicly like this:

1. jack up car remove wheels
2. remove pin to get off ball joint nut
3. use 19mm(12 sided socket preferably) socket to remove ball joint nut
4. use 19mm socket(probably need breaker bar) to remove the nut where the bad bushing is
5. use 10mm socket to remove the bolt holding the plastic cover thingy near the bad bushing lol
6. use 14mm socket to remove the V shaped frame piece
7. use a hammer to knock out old rod/bushing(surprisingly easy for mine)
8. install new rod and torque as needed

I wrote this in about two seconds but from what i recall that was about it, sorry if the socket sizes are off since i'm not 100% sure on what exactly they were but this is close and not hard to figure out once your under the car.

I also had on hand new ball joint seats since i heard getting old ones off the ball joint can be tough, that probably helped with time some. I ordered my compression rods, bolt stoppers and ball joint seats from Riverside. I think it all ends up around $450 and install was an easy diy for me.

These new rods are the best thing I have done to this car. My ride was noisy and the steering just didn't feel right. Now the car feels like new.

Hope this helps

How much does this all change for X - AWD cars? In another post it's a whole different rod?
Also, are the ball joints replaceable, should the whole rod be replaced to renew the ball joint before it goes bad?

If ball joints bad, yes replace whole thing.

If just the bushings, take 'em out, and have any frame/alignment shop press out/in the old/new bushings.

Used rods? No thanks.

It looks like you CAN replace the ball joints if they go bad???

Or are these for maybe the lower control arm and not the compression rod???
