intake manifold stud broke...

typical stuff, well actually not so typical more annoying, I was doing my spacer install today. On my final 100nm tighten round, i snapped off the upper 10mm nut. At first i was like OMG OMG and then i pulled it off and saw i still have a LOT of the stud that i can pull out...

But my question is the 2nd part that screws into the manifold, is that a threaded on thing or is it just inserted. This is needed to i can properly remove it and reinstall it.

Obviously i need a new stud.. but WTF $26 for a STUD... LMAO there has to be another way...

http://www.courtesyparts.com/350z-pa...5_716_727.html

looks like 14003QA STUD at $26.60..

I'm looking for some type of measurement to go to local hardware store and pull something off the shelf.

Best way to remove this stud? Its so small... I clamped on with my vice grips and it just rounded off the thread, it wasn't enough thread to do a double 10mm nut trick. Its not flush i have about half an inch to play with but all threads are not rounded off.

i dont think this type of style is the best to use...
Amazon Amazon
if it was flush i would just drill in but since i have a stud it might be easier just cant find the right tool.

LOL... honestly i figured i would not get a reply. Most things that get replies in this section sadly now a days are " teaser pixs" "how to lower" and "what offsets i can run"

Well this is for anyone who comes into my problem.

i used this tool size #1 worked perfectly in removing it. Got it off in a matter of seconds. Nissan wants $26 for that exact stud and $2 each for the 6 bolts. Lowe's has them size M6x1.0 x 75mm or 70mm. Here is the info if you guys need it. Everything is in and no leaks right now.

It's not that no one wanted to respond.......its just like the 10th time someone's had this problem and the answer is always the same. Ironically your answer to the problem is the answer the 10 other posters received.

Glad you got it worked out though.

if they wanted to post "search" or something like that they would have... but all is good.

actually i dont think anyone has ever broken the stud. the broke one of the 6 bolts. i've seen that all day.

here is the picture as well for anyone who might fall into my shoes.

in a way i was kinda pissed because MD gave us all replacement bolts exact for those 6, but there is no reason for him to include it as well, since his gasket isn't that much bigger... lesson learn. these bolts will break at 80in lbs as well. i searched on my350z and saw MD post that he broke one and drove on it for a little bit.

got to be careful which torque wrench you grab... there's a big difference between in/lbs and ft/lbs. iirc, those nuts/studs require in/lbs torque. I just made sure mine were tight and then some with out using a torque wrench.

Glad the OP got it fixed!

If that ever happens again on studs that are a total pain in the *** to remove, autozone rents out stud remover sets and thread repair sets, just an fyi. The stud remover set is basically sockets with eccentric pins inside so when you turn the socket it bites into the stud to remove it.
