Nice job on the 06 sedan - best of the first gen's IMO
Those RPM's are completely normal at 80mph. There's a technical explanation but I don't know it; I just know that I reside at 80mph on the freeways every day and the needle points at 3.2k-ish RPM's.
EDIT: ^ I was wrong. I reside at 85 mph and above for the most part on the freeway. At 80mph, I'm nudging 3k RPM's. Maybe OP is extremely lucky if the former owner had a 3.5 diff installed.

G35 sedan w/ too much money in mods

Are you a 6MT or 5AT? 3200 is high for the auto transmission with the 3.3 diff at 80 MPH. Most members report around 2950-3000 RPMs at that speed. I swapped out to the 3.5 diff and hit exactly 3200 at 80.
Oh crap! I just took a look at this thread and something may be up with my 5AT sedan naow:

Hopefully for me I'm thinking of the RPM's when I'm going 85mph & not when I'm at 80mph. Will have to check this out next time I'm on the freeway

Sorry, OP!

It's around 3000 rpm at 80. Honestly, if your torque converter is locked up, then there is nothing to worry about. Gearing is mechanical, so rpms are gonna creep on you.
I said the same thing about 3000 @ 80mph as well when I got my car. I was coming from a v8 mustang where 80mph was 1800rpm or so. I drive 50 miles per day at 80mph....the engine is fine
