Hi all, I'm looking to see if anyone else has experienced this. I have a new 2004 G35x (less than 800 miles on it), and I noticed that when I start up the car and pull out/start driving, the car makes this odd noise between 1st and 2nd (this is while the car is in Auto, not Tiptronic). It sounds like some whirring/spring is being wound up and then released, right before the the auto transmission shifts to 2nd.

I just brought this to my dealer and they said it was a normal sound. I'm not sure that I believe it, since the sound wasn't apparent during the first 3 weeks of my driving the vehicle AND I didn't hear this noise in the test drive vehicle (different car, but same year/model G35x).

Are these sesrvice guys just being lazy?

Don't worry, it is normal. It's the VDC kicking in. Before you go into drive hit the VDC off button and see if you still hear it.

 

Don't panic.....It's the ABS system activating. Read your manual.

 

ABS "initializes" at about 7mph, which is probably when car shifts into 2nd.
Think of it as your car's way of saying hello... with a "fart".

Yup its the ABS charging at 7mph.

It will do it regardless of the gear
