I think I would be ok if the factory brakes went about 30K. I have owned cars that were close to needing brake jobs with between 30 and 40K on em. The G has great stopping power and we are all thankful for that in emergency stopping situations. We are not thankful when we have to fork out $ for repairs and Infinti has addressed that for 36K. However, I think the brakes should have the same warranty as the rest of the car since they already know of a short life defect. Or, possibly, come up with a fixed shared cost of replacing rotors/pads between 36K and 60K or duration of warranty instead of leaving us in the lurch.

I just had my brakes replaced under the warranty at 24,000. This shouldn't be a shock to people who bought this car as a true sport sedan. High performance tires will wear out fast like the brakes when you drive them above the normal pace of traffic. The stock tires will last forever because they are hard and stink for spirited driving. My GMC Typhoon and my old 3000 VR-4 also went through tires and brakes faster than my old honda. If you didn't plan on replacing the the tires and brakes at 15-20K you should have bought a Buick or you didn't know any better due to a lack of experience. I'm happy that Infiniti added this brake replacement to the warranty. I didn't expect it at all.

My dealer told me that Infiniti experimented with the compund used on the 03-04 brakes and came up with something that really bit well. However, the downside was that they wore really quickly and were somewhat 'grabby'.

He said they've since come up with a replacement that compromises a little, but wears much better. This dealer seemed to think that the brakes were not that big of deal because the replacements wear like typical perf sedan brakes.

Is that not what you guys that are on your second pair are seeing ?

Not at all! I am on my third set of brakes, second set was the warranty replacement.
They lasted as long as the original OEMs, 15K miles. They do in fact stop very well,
just wear out every 15K miles.

02 Audi A4 new breaks after 18K miles, there really not that expensive guys, like maybe $80 for all 4. you should consider putting the ceramic breaks on their so there will be less noise, break dust, last longer, better temperature, so they dont warp

I remember reading on Motor Trend about a year long test on an 2003 G35 sedan. They said they had to change the pads and resurface the rotors at 15,571 miles. They also had an average fuel consumption at a little over 20 mpg (which means they probably weren't driving it too hard). Now, they didn't notice that the brakes were "defective". In fact, they called it normal wear.

Here's the article: http://motortrend.com/roadtests/oney...ict/index.html

So, in my opinion, this kinda fast wear is pretty normal for performance minded brakes. If these kinds of things are problems for some G35 owners, I'm pretty sure they should have went for the I35 instead.

No, Its Not Normal Guys. My 328 Bmw Doesnt Have Issues With Break Wear!--- They Are "sporty"....infiniti Made A Wonderful Car With Defective Breaks Very Thin/brittle Paint And Lousy Speakers. I Have Never Loved A Car Like I Love My G, But Lets Get Real---my Breaks Have Squeeled Loudly Since About 3000 Miles. I Have Had Two Seperate Arguments With My Dealer Because He Refused To Replace My Breaks. After Looking At Them He Would Tell Me That They Are Fine And That Its Normal To Hear A Little Squeek. If I Were A Real Estate Agent Or Something Similiar That Required I Take People In My Car---i Would Be Broke!!! Its Embarassing...i Didnt Pay 33000 For A Luxury Vehicle That Can Be Heard Screaching To A Halt Every Time! Its Not Okay! Sue Em Till It Hurts!

Give me a break!! So why does BMW replace pads/rotors for the length of the warrany? Every BMW I see has black dust covered wheels as well! And it's Brakes, not Breaks, if your were a real estate agent, it wouldn't be your car that would make you broke!

Just as an observation... I've noticed that my brakes squeek very loudly sometimes also, but I also know it always occurs some hard braking/moutain driving. I think the loudest I heard it was after a good long (yet fast and somewhat fun) drive on Mulholland Drive through the Santa Monica moutains near Malibu. During the drive, the brakes didn't squeek at first, but it made a lot of noise near the end. After than, I took the freeway (101) and drove pretty easy. Guess what, my brakes stopped squeeking. During that entire time, my brakes only squeeked during periods where the brakes where being applied.

The squeeking I encountered was caused by vibration between the pad and the rotors, not by the wear indicators. This occured (I think) because of hard driving heating up the brakes, and the freeway drive was just enough to cool them down. Vibration was caused by friction, and friction is what slows the car down. (I also think the overall topography of the area caused an echo that kinda "enhanced" the loudness. lol)

I just had my 30,000 mile service done. Brakes were fine and they're the originals. Is that unusual?

Very unusual, unless you granny the car all the time. At 30K I needed new
rotors and a second set of pads all around. You must drive on the highways
all the time and not use the brakes much. That is the only explanation I
can think of. I live in the Houston area, lots of stop n go use of the brakes.

I think it's unsual on this forum, but this is such a small minority of G owners.
