New Member- Lowering Question

Hi Guys,

I recently just picked up an 04 G35 Sedan with sports suspension and my first order of business is to lower the car. I've done some research and read that most people lower their car with 350Z OEM springs because its has the same spring rate as Sports Suspension springs, while giving it about a 1 inch drop. My questions is, if I install 350z springs how will the ride be with my Sports Suspension shocks? Would my shocks be able to support the drop, or would new shocks also need to be installed.

Thanks for the help.

You'll be fine with the Sport shocks, but you can save yourself a little work and the need for a spring compressor by buying the front Z spring/strut combo. Also the 04.5-up Z rears have a higher spring rate (referred to as 'revised') if you're interested in a stiffer ride back there.

Thanks for the info SwivelHips.

So I'm assuming you are recommending going for a Z spring/shock combo rather than a Z pring/Sports Suspension shock combo?

Also, do you think I would need a camber kit for a 1 inch drop?

Thanks once again.

Yes to the combo, no to the kit. Not necessary for a 1" drop.

Listen to Wayne, he speaks the truth

He's on Z fronts with coupe rears, I'm on revised Z all 'round.

You won't need a camber kit at all. In fact a Sedan on Z springs will go into spec for 350Z alignment specs. (it will almost go back to normal sedan specs, but not quite on the camber)

Agree.....No camber kit..How many miles do you have on your shocks? Typically they last about 60K so if you are on stock shocks and on the higher side of 60k I would recomend getting nw shocks too

I just bought the car and it only has 41k miles on it (Previous owner barely drove it!). I am thinking about doing the Z/G coupe springs. Will I need to get new shocks even if I have the sports suspension?

Why do people prefer to get G35 coupe springs in the rear, when they have the same spring rates as the unrevised 350Z (342 - Correct me if I'm wrong). It seems like they would be the same ride, but people say the unrevised springs gave it a bouncy ride, while the G35 coupe springs didn't. Little confused. Thanks.

I also just installed some z springs in the front- haven't done the backs yet. The fronts are almost settled at a finger gap of about 2.5- I'm hoping it drops to 2 even. Before I put the rears on I wanna search for pics of z springs on all corners vs z/g combo. So far though, the ride hasn't seemed to change at all! I'm at 70k on my struts and she still floats down the road as if she were new! I guess replacing the struts at 60k isn't quite a rule of thumb...

Also to address aix's question: people go with the g/z combo because it gives the most even fender to wheel gap for the front end relative to the back. With just the z springs, the rear of the car "appears" to be lower than the front. It's not terribly noticeable but then again if you are the type of guy to lower your car you WILL notice it, lol!!

You really need look no further than this thread. I'm on Z springs, SwivelHips is on G/Z combo.

Revised Z is the same height as G/Z so uh its easier to find that then to buy Half of a G and Half of a Z
