I was driving up to the mountains (Prescott AZ) this evening and all of a sudden while cruising down the street, the entire car completely shut off... except the head lights. Every thing other than the headlights is completely inactive. No dome light, no anything... except the head lights stayed on. To me, it sounds like some sort of fail safe mode. About half a mile before the car died, the battery and brake light flickered and then came on and stayed on for about 2 or 3 seconds, then went off. Shortly there after (about half a mile) the entire car shut off and went completely unresponsive. The dealership up here is closedon Saturday's so I'm probably going to have to tow it all the way back to Scottsdale. Any thoughts on what could be wrong?

I have a sneaking suspicion that it has to do with a botched jump start 2 weeks ago... the cables got wired to one of the batteries backwards, but the car has run just fine since then. I did briefly see the brake/battery light flash last weekend but I changed the alternator and thought that would fix it. The guy at Checker that checked the battery said that the alternator was putting out too much so it sounds like some sort of voltage regulator got toasted.

I'd like to try and fix it myself of course, but will likely bite the bullet and have the dealership fix it.
