Help Me Decipher What the Service Guy Said

Hi Y'all,
I'm new to the forums so excuse me if this has been posted a million times. I went to get my 06 g35 serviced today(oil change etc..) and I told the service guy(not the mechanic) that the front passenger side makes a clicking/knocking sound when I back up with the wheel turned all the way to the left and right only but does this when the car is cold i.e. when I back out of my parking space but not after the engine is warmed up. I have brought it in twice before and they said they can't find anything wrong.

Well, today the service guy said the mechanic thought that a compressor on that side might need to be replaced, that there was "excess play there." This was the reason for the noise with the wheel turned all the way. The service guy said that the mechanic said there was some small cracking there and most likely it would need to be replaced. Just what the hec are they talking about?

I could've sworn he said compressor and not CV joint. Any ideas? Make any kind of sense? Help. Cheers in advance!

my 05 x does that same thing intermittently, I had a tech look at it but he couldn't find anything wrong.
I really haven't paid much mind to it since...

compression rod. if its under warranty let them replace the entire piece, otherwise just buy the bushing for $25 and have it pressed in (many of us have had the same problem).

Yup, it's the compression rods. I had both of mine replaced under warranty. Made a knocking sound when cold over bumps
