My car made this sound too when it was auto. I noticed in drive thrus when I was close to a wall I could hear a weird sound when changing to and from MM mode. It was there in MM mode, not there in D. It sounded like a chain rattling or something.

Just a thought.

Previous auto transmissions I was familiar with would make a buzzing or rattling noise If the fluid level was low. I dunno if the 5at would do the same...but just thinking out loud

I don't believe it was a problem..though my auto tranny did fail it was probably because of my daily beatings and track days rather than from whatever the sound was.

I have noticed a noise while idling in MM, but never while driving. In fact, I noticed it while idling in a drive thru as well. It would happen when switching between D and MM. It was more of a buzzing/rattling sound if I recall correctly. I would have to check it out again since the last time I paid attention to it was when I got my car 3 years ago at 20K miles.

I thought it was normal and I havent had any transmission problems (knock on wood). I have flushed the trans at 30K and 60K, and now currently have 67K.

Next time im in line for a XXL chalupa I'll try and see if I can hear it.

How did it Fail?
Was it due to the TT kit?

Yes it happens in MM, not just while switching. When you switch it starts making the sound and doesn't stop until you go back to D.

5th gear was slipping. Most like due to the TT and all the hard drive I put it through. I'm going to fix it and then sell it.

exactly thats what I meant to say in my earlier post. I think its a normal operating noise. The G is just ready to rip in MM.

^ I dont think so Since the noise went away today, so what ever that noise is, should not be there.

If it comes back going straight to the dealer.

Well, I checked today inside a garage.

When i switch over to mm, I do hear a very faint "hissing" type of noise. Its very faint and imcan only hear it if i listen specifically for it.
