Squeaky Belts???

I posted this on freshalloy, but wanted to get more input so i thought i would post it here too....

Yesterday it was raining pretty bad in sacramento, and i am driving to and from work, on my way home i hit a couple of puddles, and i notice that my car is making this high pitched squeaky sound. The more i press on the gas the higher pitched it is. I was thinking... Rain gave me a supercharger??? yeah right, so i get home leave the car on and check under the hood. the sound seems to be coming from the belts. The engine is not idling rough or giving me any issues. So today i get up to head out to work, start the car...the squeaking is gone. I get on the road after about 10-15 minutes it comes back...the roads are still wet, and its drizzling a bit, but i can only hear it at idle, and when i push on the gas intially then it goes away and i do not hear it when i am at WOT (like yesterday, where it was LOUD). My question is will the squeak go away once everything is dry again???

Re: Squeaky Belts???

if its still there when its dry, you need to tighten your belts.

Re: Squeaky Belts???

Same thing happened to me. During a really heavy Houston
downpour, I happened to enter some high water. I quickly
realized it was too deep and backtracked. The next day the
damn squeek started. I took it to the dealer, they tightened
the belts. The squeek disappeared for a day. Then came back
with a vengance. ****! Eventually I had my belts replaced.
Have not had a squeek since from the belts. It seems the
belts get damaged when they get wet?

Re: Squeaky Belts???

someone suggested to me that I should try some belt dressing. Just spray it all over the front and back of the belts. it will help it stick better.

Re: Squeaky Belts???

After mine got wet and started squeeking, I tried the belt
dressing. It only quieted them down for a few minutes.

Re: Squeaky Belts???

Belt dressing just makes it worse, don't use that crap on your belt, I wound up having to clean my pulleys on a previous vehicle so it wouldn't contaminate a new belt, all that stuff does is make a mess!

I agree! It might serve you best to just change out the belts
with new ones.

After mine started squeeking, it stopped and started up again.
It might be time for new belts, how many miles do you have?

Re: Squeaky Belts???

Mine squeeks too more when cold in the morning and less when warmed up. Although you can still hear the light squeek noise coming under the engine noise. I have takenthe car to the dealer twice and they apparently fixed it but it comes back after a short while. I think they also maybe using the spray.
