New Car
whatt? lol components 70$ bucks 2 amps around 240$, metra kit, 100 and something, a box with decent subs about $200, Double din a little over 200. That's less than 1000$ for a basic system
I have the non-bose and I'm fine with it. That being said ever since I put on my VQ the radio hasn't been on quite as much.
Also I heard that if you upgrade just the tweeters that helps a lot with sound quality.

Our cars do sound very nice when cruising around town. I love driving with windows down around buildings or being parked on the grass revving it. I just can't get enough of it so I'd upgrade to a slightly louder exhaust where it's a bit noticeable.
With respect BlkSedan while I agree you could troll ebay for those prices I certainly would not put any of those parts in my car. The Bose system is not very good but I would rather have that than the system you just described. My friend and I did a system in his IS300 last year and it wasn't too fancy. Infiniti Referance for everything except the head unit which is middle of the road pricing at best. Componant fronts, 6x9 rears, 2 10" subs, 300 watt 4ch, 400 watt 2 ch amps. Not uncluding wire or harness, install kit, labor (which I provided free), or headunit, we were at a little over $950.
$70 components = fail.
$120 amps, generally not a good idea (unless you pick up a nice set used)
Metra kit = :/ ... yes, I have one, but I wouldn't really recommend it.
$200 Box with subs = borderline.
I haven't shopped decks in forever, so I can't really comment on that.
I wasn't saying $6000 on the sound system though.
What I was saying is, isn't it hard everytime a new guy comes along, not to give the a $6000 list of mods (all types) ?
Our cars have so many options, I wind up getting the mod bug for someone else

)
I know...me too. I'm 29, and the stock Bose setup is fine for me....now
I still have all my old amps and subs from when I was young kicking around, but I just don't care anymore.

I know I always used to put crazy systems in all my cars buy I'm 28 now and I was like "meh screw it" I just gave away three amps, two subs, and some 6x9's I had laying around. The only thing I may do is replace the front speakers.
I love a crisp sounding system, and my non Bose was definitely not that, so i did the entire thing and it sounds great, but on my next car, I am just getting the Bose Studio on Wheels and just leaving it. They improved that system IMMENSELY over the Bose in our model Gs, so there really isn't much to change.
I'm 26, and I still miss my old system
And Janik is right. The OEM system just sounds "muddy" and if you do manage to eliminate that, then it ends up "tinny" there's like no way to adjust it right.

The stock system is pretty bad. The head nut is actually clarion, not Bose. It's just a Bose designed system. The head unit breaks all of the time. On a 2003, that's out of warranty (actually most 06's are ot of warranty I think. Also if you want to replace it you have to get a double din conversion. Not sure if you lose any ac functions with that option.
Do something for performance, these cars need it. Don't throw on heavy wheels and a CAI and expect to be faster than stock. Do a spacer ($250 new), Z-tube ($50), a nice air filter (Amsoil, $40), and a cat-back ($300-600 used) to start out. Then test pipes ($80-500) and a tune ($400-550). If you have a very early 03, maybe my work with Hypertech will eventually be useful to you.
