Looking at a 03 sedan with higher mileage
Hello,
I am looking to buy a G35. It will be my first new car, so I'm not sure what to look for. This is a 2003 sedan with 100,000 miles. It had a small oil leak but has been fixed, and is with its second owner, who has had it for 3 years. Bottom price is $8500, so will be $9000 with taxes at least.
Would you show me a checklist on what to look at for this car, and let me know if you think it is a good deal?
I'm not sure if I should go for this one or wait and possibly purchase a used one from a dealer, or save up more for another.

100k miles is really nothing on these cars provided they have been regularly maintained. At 100k you're usually looking at needing the spark plugs replaced and possibly the coil packs. While the plugs are cheap the coil packs are pretty pricey. Cam sensors and crank sensors tend to go around the 100k range also.
Also check to make sure all the fluids have been changed. Oil, Transmission, Differential, Coolant, Brake, Power Steering. The trans and differential fluids should have been changed at least twice. Since you're out of warranty, maintenance should be your biggest deciding factor. Ask for all the maintenance records.
Where was the oil leaking from?

lol ^ 5 lol
a couple things you should worry about
1- are you looking and worrying about gas
2- if something brakes get a bit pricey sometimes
3- is the car clean title, check auto check , carfax ( i know its not that reliable)
4- any damge, or structal damage as in frame or chase
the miles it self has nothing to worry about 100k - your car just hitting its prime lol =D
but my point is .. if your going from a toyota to a G think twice..
but hey the G is a great car, fun to drive, and you will love being in it and owning it
but 03 , 100k for sedan auto ... hmm i think you can drop it a little more
is it fully loaded ? is the leather ripped ?
i say tell him / her 8800$ with taxes and all
i got 04 blk/blk fully loaded with navi , no rips or crack on leather
clean title , no problems whats so ever with 106k miles
for 9900$ with taxes and all ( with new rotors and brakes ) =D

I don't notice any difference (beyond the placebo effect) of running premium fuel over, say, mid-grade which is what I always use.

One time I had a little bit less than a half tank of 87, or maybe it was 89. I raced a friend and pulled 1.5 car lengths. I topped off the tank with 93, drove it around for a while, and ran him again, this time I was ahead by 3-4 cars in the same speed range. I was absolutely astonished, and I've been using 93 since.
^I did get some 87 once that I noticed a little valve clatter when getting on the interstate on an uphill climb, so i just backed off the gas a little...I have put 93 in it a few times, never really noticed much of a difference myself, but I have never lined up with another car like that before to see the difference.

That is detonation....which higher octane helps avoid.
If younare gonna buy a car with a high compression performance engine in it, you gotta use the right fuel. Would you ever put a lesser oil in the engine? I am sure you wouldn't notice a difference either between amsoil and bobs recycled oil, but you spring for the recommended oil. Well, same for fuel. If 91 is recommended....use it.
