I Would do some reading over at BITOG

I know from a casual view it looks like any other addtive gimmick but this gets great reviews from the BITOG club and they are more crtical than this board about mods (in their case, oil mods haha)

That's about what mine would do on 10-30 (if I let it LOL)

I over-maintain (Rarely hits 4000 before I've already changed the oil) and I've also found running 10-40 helps. (And the owners manual says you can run 10-40)

contact the dealer, you are still under your powertrain warranty.
at least at this point you have record and if it does consume more than whats allowed, new engine for you.

It saddens me to see the majority of people in here are "OK" with oil consumption. It is not "OK" and stop letting anyone else tell you different. I would not stand for that non sense and had an engine replaced in my 04 sedan with 50k miles on it as it went through 1qt every 3k miles. Take it in, have an oil consumption test started and let infiniti deal with the issue instead of just taking it and thinking its ok. If you have had regular maintenance done on your vehicle and you can provide those records and it fails the consumption test, then you should receive a new engine, period. Before you go in, go ahead and call Infiniti Consumer Affairs and give them a heads up. You will be provided a claim number and they will tell you to take it to the dealership for said consumption issue.

^If it's not "OK" then why do a lot of cars burn that much?

I'm not saying every car out there does. My LS1 burned almost 0.
But there are plenty of non-VQ cars (non Nissan for that matter) that burn at least as much as the G, and it's considered "normal" even by the manufacturer.

Not saying I like it, but I accept it.

I guess if the OP is within warranty, it's worth a shot to get a free engine

You said the right words, considered normal by the manufacturer. Does that mean that is gospel just because they say so. I have owned several vehicles that did not burn oil. One of which still sits in my garage highly modified and seen more abuse than this g35 ever will and burns not a drop.

The manufacturer feeds you that b.s. so you will get off their back and enough people continue to go along with it the more they will get away with it, plain and simple.

I guess it is sometimes hard for people to put in perspective 2qts of oil in less than 3k miles. Take 2qts of oil and dump it into a pan and then ask yourself, where the hell did those go if the car doesn't smoke, leak or give any signs that it is loosing oil. There is a serious design flaw somewhere for that amount to dissipate from the engine. Sure I give you a little bit of tolerance, but not 2 qts. That is excessive and nobody will ever tell me different.

Like you said, if the car is still under warranty, take it in let them deal with it and don't just lye down and take whatever b.s. answer they come up with.

If funny that you mention 10-40 as thats what the guys over at BITOG who have VQ's say to run once the engine gets older.

Like I said, I don't like that the G uses a little oil, but I don't care.

It's nothing for a VQ to get over 200,000.
For that matter, my G uses around what his does (not quite, but close) and has since I've owned. It runs now with 126,000 the same as it did with 100,000. I can't really call that a "serious design flaw"

Now the Isuzu 3.5l V6 using ~1qt every 800-1200mi?!? THAT's a serious design flaw.

You have a link? I haven't been on BITOG in a while and want to read up on it.

Actually, this is then first car I've ever owned that burned oil. Everything else would spill out whatever number of quarts in poured in 3000 miles ago.

This thread seems to contain a lot of the VQ talk on BITOG.

I just realized that I have a small OC issue and that info has convinced me to stop using M1 5W-30. I'm leaning toward the M1 0W-40 or the dino M1 10W-40 HM...or maybe even good ol Castrol GTX. Def want something easy off the shelf.
