Here's my DIY for painting the lowers on a 03/04 sedan.

https://g35driver.com/forums/body-in...-04-sedan.html

r1fovever80 is spot on about the prep, but I'd recommend lots of cleaning because most of us ran unpainted lowers for years; therefore the plastic was exposed to all sorts of grime, oil, tar, and other stuff that needs to be cleaned off. I cleaned the plastic religously because I didn't want to risk any delamination of the paint and it was my first try.

As for the gun, I used a $35 Husky siphon feed “detail” spray gun from Home Depot. For the level of paint work I was doing, it made the most sense. Most every autobody shop is going to use the nicer and much more expensive HVLP spray guns. If I was going to be painting a lot, I'd definitely have an HVLP gun, but you're talking $180+ for a decent one.

Dave is right about prep. The problem with plastics is that they r porous. They will absorb all types of silicones and grime. Tryin to get all the contaminates out of them is almost impossible. If you ever uses armoral on them be prepared for fisheyes. Id reccommend some fisheye eliminator in the clear for those instances. I use devilbis gti guns. They are hvlp and run bout 400. I have 3 of them. One for sealer, color, and clear. If u plan to do it yourself find a harbor frieght and pick up urself a cheap one for like 30-70 bucks

Its either repaint the entire car in one go of paint/wrap the sides. Im just wondering if anyone has pulled it off?
LOL its about 2 hours work to prep them and smooth out the texture. Yes the color could be off and I personally would not just paint the strip on the bumper. A little base blended on the middle of the bumper would hide the color variation. Plus clearing the whole bumper would minimize the risk of "peeling".

Ill paint mine your color and send them to you.

Not a Sata guy? GTI was my first gun in 1999, then I got my hands on a Sata nr95. Been going right along with them since. I have a NR2000, KLC sealer gun, MiniJet , and 2 NR3000's. I use my GTI and the PRI for primer now.

You know more about this than I do Everyone, whatever he says, do it.

I didn't sand down the texture on my lowers because I was worried that the sanded texture would find it's way into the plastic and then I'd eventually have adhesion problems. Apparently my worries were unfounded. I also didn't want a perfectly smooth surfaces because I don't like the way long, smooth plastic parts refract light. You can typically see a lot of waviness in the plastic, especially on darker colors. The adhesion promotor/primer and paint do seem to knock down some of this texture. My sides still have a decent amount of gloss, but you don't see your reflection in it like I do on my Stillen valence.

Its the law up here and a nice fine to go with it. I believe even the new RP (reduced pressure) guns will soon be illegal.

No sata for me. Well I use a sata for primer. If tried sata and the atomozation is great but it doesn't put out enough material for me. The gti millenium is a great all purpose gun since it comes with 3 tips. I have a sata and devilbis hvlp minigun.

i got my oem sides painted for 200 and i got a huge dent on my rear bumper the other day and got the dent fixed and whole rear bumper including the stillen valance painted for 300. Bumper needed a respray anyway. They're trying to rip you off. Don't pay more than 400 for front, sides and rear sills
