New infiniti driver need help
I just recently got myself an Infiniti G35 Sedan, 2006 Model. 40k miles, not too bad if I say so myself
So basically what I'm wondering is:
What can I do to increase my horsepower (safely) without killing my gas?
I was actually looking at getting a racing chip.. I hear they aren't too much (60-80 bucks?) and they actually IMPROVE your gas mileage as well as horsepower. This sounds a little too good to be true, so some clarification would be awesome!
Another thing I was looking at was an S&N Intake system, which I know would also slightly help Horsepower as well as work with my chip and give me better mileage (I'd assume.)
Any other suggestions or thoughts would be much appreciated!

This is where I found the chip. Like I said, seems a little too good to be true..
And I realize that gas mileage isn't great with that car, but I'm just exploring possibilities. Worst-case scenario, I don't change a thing

Off the shelf chips are snake oil. Don't buy into it. The cost of real tuner setups is pretty pricey and you gotta knowmwhat you are doing to really take advantage of it.
Off the shelf chips don't really do much on an n/a car.
These cars such on fuel economy. Sucks they are 91+ recommended as well.

So what incentive would a website have to offer a 100% guarantee if it's bogus?
Not questioning what you said in anyway, I completely believe you, just inclined to try and understand what they're trying to accomplish. If they guarantee an increase in horsepower and mileage, then how could they possibly get around that?
It's not something you can easily miss.. I either get like 300 miles to the tank or I get 380 miles.. It's a pretty hefty difference.

Marketing 101 and placebo affect.
There are certain mods that people assume "always" make power due to marketing and just ignorance...and people buy into it. Cold air intakes, off-the-shelf chips, mufflers are just some of these mods. Now I'm not disputing that some don't increase power, but popular culture tends to believe that if you take vehicle X and add a CAI then you must increae horsepower and fuel economy right?
Well, the g35 really has an effective CAI setup. If you want a little bit of tone, you can get a z tube without the baffles and get some growl. But on reality, all you need is a drop on k&n and call it a day. But there are plenty of people who think the factory engineers can't do anything right.
Same deal with these generic chips. Pop culture leads us to beleove a "chip" on a car will give you more power and fuel economy. Truth is, there is not much to gain on an N/A car. Factory engineers don't really leave a whole lot off the table. Dyno tuning it more preferential to burn a custom chip because the dyno will show you how the engine air/fuel reacts during loading and rpm and allows you to push it to the limits without creating a dangerous situation that can blow your engine.
So, since most people arent really mod savvy, very few will actually take advantage of the money back guarantee because the company is banking on you just not caring enough to send it back. For every 1 person who does, there are probably 100 people thinking they gained 20hp.
Same deal with auto parts with lifetime guarantees. The manufacturer is just banking on you tossing the part in the trash and getting something else vs actually returning and getting a replacement part....or just forgetting.
If you want to start with some basic mods, drop in k&n filter, z tube, md 5/16" plenum spacer and an exhaust are some proven good first mods to do.

Awesome post, thank you so much, basically what I was looking for.
A few quick questions, kinda a newbie to all this, so what exactly do you mean by a N/A car?
And also, you said exhaust, any specific recommendation? Any how many of those would I be able to install myself and what should I expect to be paying approximately for each item? Don't feel pressured to answer everything, I'll for sure be doing some research, but just anything off the top of your head would be cool.
I appreciate the help a ton!!

N/A means naturally aspirated. In other words an engine that does not use a supercharger, turbocharger or nitrous.
As for muffler, the decision is yours. There are too many systems and setups to choose from as this is something you really need to research on your own.
I actually like the stock exhaust

Most chips that claim to improve mileage and raise HP are bogus, like Mustang said.
You can get intake, exhaust, etc. But to get the most out of your mods, get a retune after.
